It’s a vole. If it had been a rat the dog wouldn’t have hesitated
Probably a field vole

This is one of our local rats - unfortunately there’s a drainage ditch running directly behind our garden and the place is overrun with them. We did manage to kill off the ones down there once, but as our neighbours never bother, they soon repopulate.
It was climbing up the post to raid our bird table. Mrs went out with a cup of water and the durned thing just sat there staring at her, until she gave it a facefull!
I got the whole thing on video.
There is a reason this camera is very highly regarded to this day, especially by wildlife photographers . Good low light performance coupled with fantastic auto focus. One of the best DLSRs Nikon has ever released.
What kind of snake is that HB? It looks healthy.
Tiger Snake (Notechis scutatus)
I wasn’t joking about it being a rat catcher, if you look closely there is a noticable bulge about mid-body. That photo was taken from our deck after it slithered out from under the house.
And here I am, living in a country in which there are - to my knowledge - only two venomous species of snake, and both are not deadly for humans (usually).
Yeah, no disrespect but I’m not moving down under any time soon.
You guys are much stronger than I’ll ever be.
I spent a terrifying 9 months in Australia driving trucks. Absolutely terrifying place
Dont sit on that log, a redback will get you.
Dont stand by that water, a croc will get you
Dont pick up that blue octopus, it will get you, then a croc will get you
Don’t take that right turn, its 1000 miles straight into the bush and the sun will get you.
Dont worry about that massive terrifying lizard, that won’t get you. But don’t move or it will run straight up your leg and get you.
Dont skirt round that massive lizard. The spider kn the web on the tree will get you.
Sod that place.
Great people though
You forgot about the Drop Bears and Hoop Snakes
Oh and the floating spiders raining from the sky…
But I like spiders, much better than mosquitoes (unless they’re built by deHavilland)
Yeah sure, but …
how about neither.
Well one keeps the other at bay and isn’t intentionally out to get your blood. Also they look cool. Of course central european spiders are harmless
Yeah no worries, I’m being asinine for giggles.
I actually do always avoid killing spiders at home, I even grab in my hands crickets and every other type of insects around the house to deliver them in the garden.
You forgot the women! Or should I say “Sheilas”?
Imo it is still too early for Halloween decorations but I am definitely glad they are not decorating for Christmas already.
It is a nice display though.
Wheels
Looks beautiful Derbysieger. 116 kms. Respect!
Yesterday I rode on the paths we have mowed around our acreage about 1 km per loop. Rode 6 km and it was tough, took almost as long at it takes for to do 12 kms in the city. But it’s a better workout, grass provides lots of resistance and we have some some mildly steep inclines
