Where Are You Photos [2024]

iirc with that design, any actual hydrodynamic advantage it imparted was totally overshadowed by the way it altered a key variable of the 12m formula and allowed a greater sail area or waterline or something?

As a Scandinavian and especially as a Swedish citizen (debatable, I know) I am obligated by contract to promote Fiskars products as Fiskars is Finnish, but established when Finland was under Swedish rule, even though Finns will never agree to ever have being ruled by anyone…

In my later years, I feel my allegiance shifting more towards the south…

Spinning my legs, still very windy but this time I made sure I rode against the wind for the first half of the ride. Took it pretty easy after the tour yesterday

If at all possible, do the hard part first eh.

I haven’t read that specifically, but I think that I remember that Australia II had a shortened waterline, so it makes sense. I’ll ask my sailing aficionado friend who crewed a Dennis Conner boat when he gets back from picking up a boat in Connecticut.

I have been doing a bit of digging myself since I typed that. I haven’t found anything definitive, but looking at the 12m formula:

I can see how a winged keel will change skin girth in relation to chain girth, and I haven’t done any calculations but it is easy to see how it it can be used to minimise the value for ‘d’ (maybe even close to zero?) which would then allow you to gain an advatage with the allowable waterline and/or sail area.

Had a wonderful week of backcountry near Wānaka, Young and Wilkin river valleys and Gillespie pass…my body was pretty broken after 90kms and 4kms up and down, but spirits were higher than in years.

Flew out of Chicago yesterday with the fuel stop in Cheyenne. Always enjoy flying west and seeing the scenery change.

Rocky Mountain National Park

Dropping into whatever the name of that valley is where San Jose sits…

The Sierras… Not a great picture because it was so dark but you could see them looming down there… Always a really cool sight. I’ve spent a lot of time in those mountains.

I wouldn’t quite call it a storm but this evening was very windy and of course it came from the front

About 35km/h from the SW, gusting to 50km/h… Added about 12min to my commute

Heard the hawk out there again so ran outside, they were pretty high and only above for a minute but thought this was interesting -

Looks like a red tailed hawk chasing off a red shouldered hawk (the same one from the other day maybe). Territorial things going I suppose?

Tried out manual focus on this little guy, tricky but not as bad as I expected; can see how it’s faster in some ways than auto.

Smøreost (haven’t tried skinke but another one, perhaps bacon, a few years ago) tastes way better than it has any right to. Especially when you have it in a tube as if it was toothpaste.
