Where Are You Photos [2025]

Was on my way to a doctor appointment when I saw some individuals having a whole lot worse day than me.

I had the distinct honor of attending an event held between Duke University’s School of Divinity and the Centre for Responsible Leadership last night, with Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Dr. Muhammad Al-Issa..

It was an incredibly powerful event involving young people from a variety of countries around the world telling their stories of actively working to empower underrepresented communities and populations.

I thought, “yeah I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of him”… But I just read his Wiki page.

Wow, I wasn’t aware of even a fraction of what he has achieved. What a privilege indeed to meet such a staunch advocate of peace.

I asked him 50 questions in the same hyperactive manner my son does at 5am.

Poor guy. Showed me some cool videos of typhoons and A400s having a drink as well

That’s a hilarious mental image.

We have never met, but I know your face and I have two kids that once were five years old, so I know the manner of speaking and can imagine how you could look like in that situation.

Edit: I also imagine you in a grimy, dirty overall and rubber/oil/dirt stains on your face and hands while doing wild plane-hands-gestures.

At least that guy now knows how it must feel like to be some celebrity who meets a fan.

I’ve always wanted to know if you can feel a connection from the cockpit of the tanker. I always imagine a bit of backlash in the hose when an aircraft connects and he said you can sometimes if its a hard shunt into the basket.

You can feel a boat connect to a dock, so I bet you can feel a plane connect, too.

Even on the ground you can feel someone entering a widebody jet if you are in the back. Everything moves and sends vibrations through the airframe.

Japan has a yearly “reenacting” (using the term very loosely) event every year and I decided to go for the first time this weekend. Went as a group representing the UK during WW2. “Group” as in all two of us since hardly anybody does Brit kit. Took my Action cam with me and there were also some photographers going around taking shots and bouncing them to our phones.

I haven’t been to the gym in two years and I suddenly found myself digging a slit trench. Woke up today feeling like I had been literally hit by a truck. A lot of good fun though. Next year I should take the Monday off and stay the full weekend.

You carry or ship all of that gear there?

Just my personal kit. What a British soldier would have carried for “battle order,” plus extra stuff for comfort like the picnic sheet, gas burner, kettle, etc. All in a suitcase, helmet bag, and 35L ruck for the train ride out there, then a friend picked me up from the station in his car. Most people drive there and I really wish I could get my Japanese license but the driving schools’ schedule is just impossible for me to work with.

I have no idea how they get the kubelwagens and stuff out there. I wouldn’t feel safe driving one of those on a highway.
