I wrote this a few years ago:
Where???
Bournemouth aviation museum. Its a tiny little place. But wonderfully run. Also saw an A340-600 landing across the road at the airport. A rare sight these days
Looks like a great place – that propeller is crazy! Does is say it’s from a zeppelin?
Yes indeed. It was fairly sizeable!
Did you make it out with the cockpit on your trailer?
Because it is the first photo, when I saw it and before I started scrolling down, my first thought was - “Ah, so that is the pivot he was talking about a few days ago”
My recognition skills are failing me. That control column is very Hawker Hunter, but the glareshield and instrument and lights near the sight don’t look like the ones I have seen before (mainly the small number of RSAF Hunters that have been preserved here).
Is it a Hunter? Do you know what the instrument to the right of the gunsight was for? Is that a standard RAF fit?
Yes its a hunter. I’m not sure what the fitted equipment was to be honest. But it was a test aircraft
Ah, that’d explain it!
Apparently I’m in a MIG-23, you can see MIG-21 outside on the right
Two last, still active Lim-2 (Polish built variant of MIG-15 bis)
and lastly the biggest boy - Su-22 Fitter
How do you mean? Still active in the Polish AF?
Hehe, no. Acitve in the sense that are still actually flying. Both are in private hands AFAIK.
You could actually take a ride in the 2 seater for around 2,6k $
Ok! I thought maybe the PoAF had something like the Swedish AF Historic Flight or something.
There’s a flying Lim-2 here in Norway too, although everybody calls it the MiG
Russian MIG-15s are also called MIG-15s in Poland. Lim-1 (MIG-15) Lim-2 (MIG-15bis) was built in Poland in Mielec factory. There was also Czechoslovakian version called CS-102 (based on MIG-15UTI).
That’s actually a Lim-2 too! Wow, didn’t know about this. Those are probably the last Lim-2s still in flying state.
There were three Lim-2s imported into Australia years ago, one is now on a pole at Archerfield, another went to the USA and I’m not sure what happened to the third.
All wore red stars when flying here, of course
There was one at Canberra Airport for a while, I think it was the same owner/owners who had the L-59?
