Down here, in the '70s and '80s you would have been hard pressed to find a suburban front yard that didn’t have one

I’ll try to put in a word with the boss of his company for a raise. He’s a good guy.

Throughout recent human history, and by recent I mean the period where artistic ability allowed humans to illustrate humans, workers have been portrayed as happy—or at least complacent.

Enslaved blacks singing in Virginia tobacco fields.
Soot-covered Welsh miners smiling during a ■■■ break.
Asian girls giggling on an iPhone assembly line.

It’s all BS propagated by capitalists who need to feel good about profiting off of pain.

The real look of real work is @Victork2’s expression above (and in many of his shots, actually). That’s the look of stone cold exhaustion.

 Just kidding. I’m no communist.

EDIT: “■■■”. “Phag”. Doesn’t that mean cigarette? I was just trying to write British-like. Didn’t plan on getting scolded by Mudspike’s software.

Precisely!

That was 160kg with the wheel. I got the tyre off without taking the wheel off but couldnt get the bloody new one back on. So had to take wheel off and do it in the mud on the floor. Put the first bead on then had to flip it over. Took me a few goes and had to wedge my sledgehammer under it so i could get a grip. I’m not a big guy. It was heavy as BALLS.

Fitted the tyre then needed to lift it again. Heavy. As. Balls.

Horrible bloody job. But i recite my mantra.

“No one is coming to help you” and I’m good to go.

But yeah. Biggy.

Today was cold and wet here as well. It’s the slow season for us, so we’ve been doing some maintenance of our own yard and barn.
Tomorrow we are moving the remaining Portuguese wood to our own yard, and I wanted everything prepared for that. So we’ve been moving pallets and clearing rubble.

To move pallets we use a stacker named Adolf. It’s like a normal pallet trolley but it can lift a pallet up to 1.5m high to stack them. Imagine a hand operated forklift. Imagine it lifting nothing amd you see why we dubbed it Adolf.

Anyway, the thing is made for smooth concrete indoor floors found in warehouses. Not for our long suffering, much abused yard paved with 30x60 pavers. Some of which have broken, dropped or just covered in a layer of mud, leaves, rubble.

So the thing gets stuck all the time moving 800kg pallets of bricks and such. I had a whale of a time showing the boys how “appropriate violence” again almost never means “all the violence you’re capable of” by watching them completely exhausting themselves trying to move a load and then with a single hand pulling the thing 90 degrees off the obstruction, and then the right way.

“Yeah but you are a fook’n wookie boss, that don’t count!” So I let scrawny old fart Dick take the next one. Which he did, with a grin that tore into their dumb little souls like a chainsaw of humiliation.

The cold and rain were miserable, but they weren’t cold after that, in fact their ears were glowing!

Anyway, glad I’m not stuck in an office too. Tried that but couldn’t stand it. Some people need their daily dose of physical discomfort it seems

That fake happy grin contrasts nicely to @Victork2’s muddy grimace. Both utterly miserable, but the american needs to put a happy smile on it :stuck_out_tongue:

Very polite. Keeping in mind all the Eurospikers who’ll wake up and read up on the adventures of our hero over coffee. Wouldn’t want them to start the day with a sad picture, even if your b… are freezing off.

Wish I could be that kind
