Yeah..I spent a week in Orlando with a friend that was attending a conference and we went to Disney. I had never been. It was stupid expensive. And an experience. I’m on the fence whether it was worth it..but it is..the scale and logistics of Disney..is beyond impressive.
And then I get home and fire up Rise of the Resistance on Disney+ and 30 minutes in I’m watching two minutes worth of commercials and I hate them all over again. Sigh.
As a 12 year old (first year it opened, give or take) it was amazing. This was before Epcot and such. Still remember the animatronics(?) were mesmerizing to my young self - “is Abraham Lincoln really look at me?” (hall of presidents or something like that).
Not so much 20 years later when I took my kid. He loved it still. No clue what mom & dad paid for it in ‘71/72.
Note: the white sprinkles are actually snow flakes.
‘Coincidentally’ it is also the first time we have had the fireplace going this year… Which is unusual. Normally we would have had it roaring since mid April, but it it has been an unseasonably warm Autumn this year.
How high are you above sea level? I think you might have told me this before…
We’re at 900ft/300m and it has quite an impact on growing season, snow etc.
Spring has finally kicked in at our altitude, the grass has a nice flush and as my neighbour says, you can almost hear it growing it’s so quick. This years lambs are now picking at the grass and have that stocky look.
Right now. Just shy of 1000m/3300ft (the 1000m contour is about half way between the house and our ‘top’ gate). So yeah, a few degrees (C) cooler compared to sea level and I definitely feel ‘fitter’ when I visit the coast
Funny enough though, I most noticed the altitude difference when I still had a motorcycle with carburetors…
My 90 year old Aunt was flying back home to Illinois. I was able to go with her to the gate and wait with her like what was the norm all those years ago.
Yeah, they have a nice soccer park for such a small town. That old F-4 does make for awesome photos though. From Oct 2024. Eliza’s 2030/31 team brought home the win.
I still go to the same Dentist office I went to when I was in High School. It is the third Dentist but it is the same office. Several of the staff have been there for 30 and 40 plus years.
Someone did a chalk drawing on a street about a block from the office for Mother’s Day.
"When your mother has grown older,
When her dear, faithful eyes
no longer see life as they once did,
When her feet, grown tired,
No longer want to carry her as she walks –
Then lend her your arm in support,
Escort her with happy pleasure.
The hour will come when, weeping, you
Must accompany her on her final walk.
And if she asks you something,
Then give her an answer.
And if she asks again, then speak!
And if she asks yet again, respond to her,
Not impatiently, but with gentle calm.
And if she cannot understand you properly
Explain all to her happily.
The hour will come, the bitter hour,
When her mouth asks for nothing more."
