This weekend I to Wisconsin to visit Artun, a sim buddy from way back. We brought him into our Rise of Flight squadron when he was twelve so many years ago. Now he is half partner in this lovely Christen Eagle. In the background is another friend who Artun and I met over IL2 and who, if rumors are to be believed, may now take over our squadron. He bought this knockout RV-8 several years ago and has made the trip with it to Wisconsin/Oshkosh from Colorado at least three times now. I only came up for the weekend to bask in Artun’s joy in owning and flying the Eagle. A pleasant, unexpected side-quest was hanging out at Airventure Saturday night. All the guys in the group photo were in Alaska last year either getting our float ratings (Jesse and me) or teaching us (Finn and Artun).

On the way back home from Normandy, I recalled @schurem ‘s epic report of Paris’ Air and Space Museum and decided to turn the 7 hour drive home into a 9 hour drive + 2 hour museum break in the middle.

It’s hard to overstate the sheer quantity of impressive and rare aircraft and prototypes they have. It’s even harder to write a report worth reading after @schurem 's.
So I suggest you all go re-read that and tell yourself to visit when you are anywhere near the Northern part of France.
I was absolutely ecstatic while we were there and my wife was giggling at my constant “Oh wow!” sounds.

Pic above: In the helicopter hall, Mrs. Freak suddenly said “oh this is a good reference picture for model painting! Dayglow with different wear levels in one view”

I was really happy that we could go into the Super Frélon: I love big helicopters.
And this one is epic, although I didn’t know about it when I was young and fell in love with the Sea King. It is bigger and faster (it even held a fastest helicopter speed record for a while) than the Sea King, and just as amphibious.

What is HSDI, one of those leading edge anti-ice boots based on the deflation not I would guess but the search engines only show HSI information…

When I was young, I decided to go to medical school.
At the entrance exam we were asked to rearrange the letters PNEIS and form the name of an important body part.
Those who answered SPINE are doctors today.
The rest of us went to flight school…

I think I have to try that with my Nikon D500 & 500mm lens tonight with the same settings… Just as a comparison.
Other than cropping, have you done any other processing or is that a RAW or .jpeg straight off the camera?

jpg to the phone straight off the camera then cropped, no other editing. Getting the raw processed properly at a computer will reveal even more detail

Now and then I look at the moon and suddenly it hits me again that this thing is over 380,000 km from Earth and we can still easily see those craters on the surface. Those are absolutely gigantic.
