Is that death valley?! Looks cool!

@AndyE ouch, what is wrong with that truck?

Mojave. More specifically ‘the old Spanish trail’’

A plastic garbage bag got wrapped around the pinion and somehow managed to get past the seal and got chewed up by the bearings.

How was that affecting the handling?
Honest curious question.

There was no change in handling as far as I could tell. However with the seal compromised by the bag gear oil managed to get past and coat the underside making quite the racket as I drove along, sounded like heavy rain. Also started to stink real bad. For me at least gear oil has a very distinct and unpleasant smell.

Oof, talk about a fluke.

Ach! I can imagine! Thanks for explaining.

I always ask these questions because I tend to remember this stuff.
When something happens to my car or others I have this wealth of little tidbits of information that pop up.

I never imagined plastic ending up there!

Just when you thought you’d seen everything!

You guys are telling me! I’m still trying to wrap my head around how it managed to get past the seal in the first place.

Are you sure it’s a bag and not a local component that got loose? I just don’t see it getting past any seals…

I once had a strap off a backpack or similar get between a back plate and a brake drum on a lorry and it got into the bearing and half shaft assembly. Made hell of a racket

In what probably makes the top 10 of weirdest things I’ve done in my life, I just trained a neural net to recognize when a cow is in heat.
