Where You Are Photos (2020)

The moon, with my Nikon D3200 and the Nikkor AF 55-200mm. Quite happy with how it turned out, got a simple tripod to play with too! Though I don’t think I’ll be doing a lot of stargazing with my camera.

That’s a mighty fine looking airplane Chaz! I could be looking back through rose tinted glasses, but I really loved flying the King Air! (The B200 in my case)…

Casper, nice shot! Astro-imaging is not easy, but I bet that your camera could pick up the Orion Nebula, and possibly the Andromeda galaxy. Oh, and Jupiter’s moons brighter moons. You might even be able to get a photo of Saturn with the rings being at least recognizable.

Hang in there. Hope it gets better for everyone in the industry. I think October 1 is going to be a day we all remember…for all the wrong reasons.

Very nice! I’m gonna try tonight. I’ll post my findings as usual

Edit: Even the D3200 should be able do get some decent nightsky images. If you can, rent a fast wide angle Lens, like a 24mm f/1.4 or f/1.8, and you should be able to pull some decent milkyway images out of that camera if you have some dark skies around, even bortle 4 should be doable but darker is obviously better.

Second Edit: I forgot about the crop factor, so I would suggest a 14-16mm for that camera

Aah yeah, that’s the problem in The Netherlands you see! Tons of light pollution because every road is lit up all through out the night. I’ve got a 35mm F1.8 for my D3200 which is really fast. I’d love to give it a try someday. Will take some travel time though.

Some of the Islands should offer Bortle 2 skies or better which is great. I was supposed to be on holiday to Terschelling during the Easter break that even has Bortle 1 skies on the eastern end of the Island. I’m a bit sad because the weather would have been perfect. It’s postponed until next year, hopefully the weather will be alright again.

Nice job. Co-incidentally I took a picture of the moon yesterday evening just as the sun was going down.

Lens is 100-400mm.

I have a 3200 myself. For the cost , as fine a piece of Photog equipment as I ever owned.

Absolutely, got it as a steal too, 100 euro’s second hand with kit lens with less then 5000 clicks. Didn’t have a lens cap though for that price  . There’s a few things I am missing at times, bit better or versatile AF would be nice, compared to my 3/4 FZ300 it’s a bit outdated. A bit more ISO range would make me happy too but those are all small things that do not make me not use the camera. Perhaps if I find a 7000 series for a steal at some point I might upgrade. I do love the APS-C format though so I probably won’t go full frame anytime soon.

Yup, modern mirrorless systems have incredible autofocus across 80-90% of the sensor. That is one of the things I like most about the EOS R with the 1.4 firmware. What I do miss a little is speed but overall the experience of shooting with the R is really enjoyable and it honestly does more than I need (especially in video, I don’t do video xD).

@Derbysieger @TheAlmightySnark I have 4-5 Frames and I honestly cannot say what all in lens and flash etc for actual FILM Pics , which I still love the look of, but its so easy to grab that Nikkon and point and click , and get such excellent results. A few drawbacks as you guys note, but between time saved and just near IDIOT proof technology in my Nikkon 3200 , its a reflex now to reach for it.

The full moon last night:

I’ve got a couple more pictures, but they need more editing. All I will say is that the moon was incredibly bright.

I live next to a hospital these days! Lots of air traffic too unfotunately…

Staying inside has me experiment a bit with a tripod and details around me.

Or the 10 days after Hurricane Michael. Felt like I was an extra in a Francis Ford Coppola movie; choppers everywhere, at all times. Waking me up at sunrise (after leaning how to sleep without AC - pro tip; a good buzz helps); and not even having the forethought to air-drop mandatory supplies (more beer and BBQ).
