Breathtaking.
Great shots there @Derbysieger. I’m planning on getting up to see the Comet tomorrow morning.
It’s quite easy to spot. Not as bright and brilliant as Hale-Bopp in '97 but still very cool.
It appears about 90 minutes after sunset to the northwest and then moves further north, getting lower on the horizon.
That’s not your grandfather’s (me) KingAir. Our 350 had a…LORAN?..Maybe?
Yeah…that’s valuable coffee cup space those dual FMCs are taking up…
Wonder how many times the seatbelt has cracked those screens…
Photo of an actual King Air seatbelt…
And I just woke up… Okay, it’s 9AM over here and I have the day off xD
Took my oldest nephew on a hike along the Rhine last night, unfortunately no comet thanks to low hanging clouds but he didn’t mind because he got to stay up late xD
Roll with it, we’ve got a fly-in running this weekend so you’re already prepped to stay up late!
To me the rocks make that photo so much more interesting, but I don’t know why.
They aid with depth perception making the image more three-dimensional, as well as appearing to sit atop the water which looks more like a sheet of frosted glass and breaking up what would define the edge of the water.
At least, that is part of why I noticed them anyway!
Pretty much. If I had been on my own I would have shot this at 15mm and moved the camera closer to the rocks to take advantage of the wide angle distortion of the lens and make the rocks appear much bigger than they actually are but that requires focus stacking to get everything in focus and it was hard enough to keep my nephew from getting bored and running into the frame for a single 5min exposure, not to mention 2x5min…
Edit:
Still haven’t uploaded my favourite image from last night but here is No 2 of 3 longexposures I shot:
Also some flowers:
Edit:
The ‘Rhine Gate’ (translated from the German Rheintor) to the right is a gate in the dike designed in 1937 that can be closed in case of a flood. In all my life it has been closed once during the late nineties or early twothousands. Since then the water has only risen to within a couple of metres of the Gate. The road leads to the ferry across the Rhine between Orsoy and Duisburg-Walsum which is used by many commuters because in a lot of cases it’s cheaper to use the ferry than drive to Duisburg or Wesel where the next Bridges are located:
I’m currently sitting in a lookout, waiting for the clouds to clear away so I can shoot NEOWISE. According to the weather radar it should completely clear up in about an hour but at the moment I can’t see a single star…
This was about two hours ago:
I am currently enjoying Jupiter and Saturn rising into the night sky!
Just show him more rally cars and explain to him that they too, can fly!
