Where You Are Photos (2020)

Looks like Charleston with the bridge in the background

Shocking how young De Niro looks in that picture… he didn’t look that young the first time. :older_man:

I’ve spent my savings. I’ve taken the plunge and I’ve bought a brand new trailer.
I have a customer who requires pretty much instant availability to go anywhere in Europe and North Africa with aeroplane parts. Mostly engines and engine parts.
I’ve done the maths and rather than using a heavy truck for light, oversize loads I had this baby specially built for the job. Picked it up today and I’m over the moon with it.

Now…just need the phone to ring… :flushed:

Stuck the wife’s car on it just to see what it was like with some weight on it and test the winch out and broke her bumper tow hitch cover. I have ordered one which I hope turns up before she notices.

Wow, you got a long one! How do you save the load from getting all whet and dirty?

They normally come packaged and framed with large wooden crates and then I put a canvas sheet over the top and rope it all down. Its a bit of an involved job but this trailer should make that easier. Im looking forward to trying it out. I splashed out a bit to be honest but its the right tool for the job and the fuel savings alone from using a full size lorry will make it pay for itself in a very short amount of time. Fingers crossed.

Good luck on that mate. You will never forget that first big investment. It’s going to be fine. That phone will ring.

I felt something like the “gulp, I just bought something that may or may not pay for itself” when I bought my first big tool, a stonesaw. I think I posted pix of me with it, because I have a very passionate and special love/hate relationship with it. At the time, it felt like I flushed all of the money down the toilet.

But the thing did pay for itself, and then some. As will yours. It looks like a very versatile, yet specialised tool. Something that allows you to take on that job the other guy can’t because he can’t make the speed, or the margin, or the axle/weight restrictions.

I’m so pleased its working out for you mate. It gives me so much more confidence to know that people are making it. I’ve still got some driving work at night while things settle but I’m hard at work in my downtime trying to sort some of my own work. I think I’ll be OK. But its going to be a tough few months. I got solid work lined up doing the short notice stuff. Just need it to happen.

As for being cheaper and more flexible, I’m 99% sure I’ve got the market sorted and know the competition. I’m lighter, faster and when I need to be heavy and slow I can do that too. I really have tried to think of everything. Come on phone…ring!!!

If I am released from lockdown I will be going for a taxi in the back of the Southend Vulcan on 12th Dec. The Captain is the owner of the 2nd Long eze I fly and in which I took @Victork2 flying. But I suspect that we won’t be allowed to go and trundle up and down the runway due to COVID and it will be delayed again.

Close by is Stow Maries WW1 airfield. If there is enough daylight that will be visited as well. It is the only WW1 airfield where the buildings have survived

I’ve never been more jealous of anything in my life.

The event will be cancelled. Its the third attempt. Cancelled twice already due to covid. I got into the back of a Vulcan and a Canberra to fly in 1981. RAF Scampton and Wyton respectively. Both times the radios went tech so we just started the engines and switched them off again.

My wife called a few fireplace insert places for quotes. They’re estimating about $4300(!) CAD installed. Prolly going to go for it but OUCH! I couldn’t even imagine how much more a Lopi would cost.

Anyhoo, we remembered we have some half decent furniture stored in the basement so we brought it up to our new family room that needs a fireplace insert

Thanks mate. Really appreciate it. Funnily enough I had to turn down a job to schiphol last week as the trailer wasn’t ready. Maybe I’ll see ya one day lol

Definitely shoot me a message if you get a call to Schiphol!

Will do mate. I was in and out of there pretty frequently when I was doing this work for someone else. I’m hoping it carries on now I do it for myself as Schiphol is only 4 hours from the ferry at Calais and I can turn it round and be home same day lol
