Where You Are Photos

My partner in crime for today’s walk. Didn’t see a soul (sole would be a fish, my original typo kept for posterity) for about 2 hours, very quiet.

Here was the weather this morning during our bike ride around the neighborhood. Those fuzzy white things in the sky show up every once in a while, but today they blotted the whole sky! Weird.

I’m currently visiting my mum for Christmas, so here are a few pictures I snapped yesterday from my old hometown Fredericia, Denmark.

The city’s founder, King Frederik III. The city was founded as a fortress city with ramparts, moats and a citadel, to protect the straight between Jylland and Fyn.

Fairly sparse Christmas decorations, it’s a pretty small town.

The ramparts surrounding the city centre. The tower is a later addition, a water reservoir dressed up to look the part for a fortress. The ramparts are stocked with various canon positions, some old canons and some new reproductions. Every year for the anniversary of a sally that broke a German siege in 1849, the guns salute the city at 6 in the morning.

Satellite view of the fortifications. It is the only city in Denmark that was planned, so it is unique in having a grid layout - to facilitate the use of artillery in the streets!

Airplane isn’t mine, it’s a rental that’s full of surprises. (Yes I cut the N# out)

Ah, home sweet home. I went to high school in Red Bluff, CA, and got my pilot’s license out of KRDD.

Beautiful pics @Krautwald. I’ve not ever been to Denmark, and @Sargoth I’ve only made it to Oslo the once. They look great.

Sounds like a story there @Jeffzig

I’ve driven the I5 down through Shasta a few times, wonderful views - is that Lassen and that sort of area?

Norway has a lot more to offer nature-wise, but Denmark can be quite lovely in summer… Aarhus and Copenhagen are both great cities to visit

Nice, that’s actually where I got my fixed wing PPL in about 2004 as well. Did you fly with Bert by chance?

Probably nothing that unique to 1970’s rentals. I don’t fly it that often so I’m not really in the loop of the current issues. On that flight I learned that the shimmy damper is totally shot and aborted a takeoff after it felt like it was going to shake itself apart. Then the radio completely locked up on and was stuck on Oakland Center the entire way home (probably related to severe vibrations). Luckily I had a bluetooth headset, so I dropped down to cellular range and called the FBO and had them give me traffic updates (not that big of a deal, it was still daylight at an uncontrolled field).
The first pic is Mt. Shasta from Weed Airport, 2nd pic is over I-5 headed towards Mt. Shasta, and the third pic is Manazanita Lake at Mt. Lassen.

No, my CFI was Jim, of Jim and I aviation.

Ah ok, never flew with them but I think his wife Sue is still instructing out there.

Seeing how accurate DCS: NTTR is. I find it doesn’t capture the hangovers or general feeling of shame found in the air.

When does the Porn Slapper DLC module come out? (Link is SFW)

Last time I was there it was distinctly not Vegas like (up on Mount Charleston)…

Anyway…have fun. Keep the bucket handy.

I’m looking for Slender Man in that photo…

Not so much “where I am” but “where I was” as I’m back home now.

Wish I could’ve stayed longer but we were unfortunately limited on time.
