Sounds like a great opportunity to do a Mudspike Flight to Pyeong Chang!
Sounds good…we did that Rio Olympics flight a couple years ago. I actually lived in Seoul for a couple years as a kid…great memories there…
…but there’s no hurdles in the winter Olympics…
I might be persuaded to hop up there from Christmas Island. I’m still recovering there from the virtual Christmas party… lol. Flying to Korea from home would pretty much be a re-run of the Christmas flight, just a little shorter.
Meh. I don’t care much about Olympics in general but those are at least winter Olympics where Germany occasionally wins some medals.
So yeah… I’ll probably watch some of them.
I absolutely love all of the Olympic games, especially after attending some events in Atlanta in '96. I was fortunate in that I had a spare bedroom available, and over the 2 weeks friends would fly in bringing a spare ticket or two. Honestly, I would never have thought to attend some of the events, like badminton and weight lifting. But, they were so well presented and the athletes so good, that one couldn’t help but be drawn into the moment. They were all fantastic. The highlights would have to be a couple of nights of track and field, but the most emotional was most definitely the men’s marathon.
While there were cheers and standing ovation for the winner, most of the applause was reserved for the final finisher, Abdel Baser Wasiqi (AFG), who running injured (hamstring) finished almost 1 and half hours behind the next competitor, with a time of 4:24:17. While Wikipedia states that workers were beginning to tear down the course, I can tell you that not many, if any, spectators left the stadium, and gave a huge roar for what seemed like 20 or 30 mins, while he limped into the stadium, finished his laps and collapsed on the ground to be attended by a number of aid workers. If you can imagine a stadium full of people patiently waiting for 1.5 hours for the last finisher. It was the Olympics man. I get choked up thinking about it now. It was one of the most endearing sporting events that I have witnessed.
I cannot find a map of the Olympic venues and don’t know how far apart they are but I think I will try some domestic flights from venue to venue (in XP11) This will be less time consuming than Christmas Island, and by the way I am still in Prison on Crete and hope to start the next leg to Christmas Island when the puppy needs less attention
I am still in Prison on Crete
Well…just make sure not to go north of the orange line or you could end up in ANOTHER prison…!
The Britons, the medals, the highlights - everything you need to know about every day of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
It starts today gang
Technically started Wednesday!
As an FYI for anybody here in the States who doesn’t want to deal with NBC’s time delay and fluff crap, CBC is streaming 18 hours a day with no location filters:
Apparently, the athletes in the Olympic Village are…active…
At the Winter Games, a whopping 110,000 condoms will be handed out to the 2,925 participants
Let’s see… That’s roughly 36 per, the games run for 16 days…
Yep, that sounds like a safe number.
You are forgetting water balloon fights and Beldar impersonations.
You are forgetting water balloon fights
Have you been seeing the weather forecasts over there? That’d be ice balloon fights.
This got weird fast.
Olympic athletes are young, attractive, at the top of their chosen sport and surrounded by other young, attractive people with common interests. Also all of them are hopped up on adrenaline. It’s no real surprise they bone like it’s going out of style, it happens every two years.
No, if we want to talk about the anomalous nasty, I want to know what the nerds are doing at the South Pole.
Intrepid souls braving the cold climes of Antarctica clearly find traditional ways of keeping warm.
I still don’t know that anyone will ever top the Opening Ceremony for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. It still gives me chills watching it…
