It was the impact that dislodged it. It’s one of those booster seats with a back that was only held in place by an unfastened seat belt. It regularly falls on the floor when my daughter unbuckles and the seat belt fully retracts leaving it loose.
Not sure. Looking at the Nissan Murano or maybe just another Pilot. Depends on price and (now) safety features.
The old one had a backup camera and a right turn camera, but that’s all. Now they have parking/collision alerts and lane assist and all that so I’m looking to get something that’s less likely to get in a mess, although I freely admit I don’t think any of that would have helped in this situation. Only those rain tires with the deep grooves and channel maybe.
However, as the first accident I’ve had where the car suffered more than a scratch or dent you could bang out with a rubber mallet in your own driveway, I’m now feeling less “it will never happen to me” than I was earlier in the week.
Did you ever get her up on two wheels?
Sort of a joke but my last accident, August 2013, I got hit in the side and got the interesting experience of driving on the passenger side wheels only for about thirty yards. After I got hit I was on an overpass that had higher than normal curbs and when I hit them it pitched me back onto all 4 wheels. If they had been standard height the car would have probably ended up on its passenger side. It wasn’t unit about an hour later that I realized the voice I had been hearing while I was cursing under my breath during the accident was onstar asking if I was ok. Guess when I stopped and opened the door they figured it out.
Glad you got out of it ok and the car is almost certainly totaled since all the airbags deployed.
Wheels
Glad you are OK, Jedi.
Did someone say Guam? When were you there? I lived on the rock from ‘99 to late ‘07. Never wrecked anything that I can recall.
Here we call it aquaplaning. But hm… hydroplane like the aircraft… could be
But never experienced severe one.
Tomorow I am driving to airport and its going to rain so I beter watch out!
Good you are in one piece.
Just recently got myself a car with modern toys;
mini HUD. Shows speed and all quake glance information slightly above car hood. (would be nice if on eye level)
Lane assist - System using camera “nudges” steering wheel to stay in the middle of the lane.
Auto Brake - camera + radar census threats and stops.
Rear / side radar. - when backing up from parking space - it notifies if another car is coming. Or when changing lane it beeps if another car in the blind spot.
Remote engine start - From a cell phone I can turn on engine and tell AC to keep certain temp.
This is insane…
The road was so wet I just spun like a bumper car, it never once lifted up off the ground. There wasn’t enough friction to cause a roll. On the plus side, it meant my momentum basically dictated where the car went (in a relatively straight line along the right lane/shoulder) so I didn’t go sailing off into the other lanes and impact anyone.
I’m now in the unenviable position of waiting to hear what will happen. They say they will likely total it, but they have valued the thing REALLY high, basically what it would cost to walk into a dealer and buy it off the used car lot with no discounts.
While on the one hand it means I’ll clear a good amount over my remaining loan if they pay that, on the other it means they have to determine a lot more damage to total it. I don’t know what the threshold is, but that extra $5k or so for total value is not helping in this case.
I am avoiding medical bills, too, so that’s a plus.
