The default 737 is gorgeous…as good or better than the MD80… The inclusion of those two aircraft alone is probably worth the purchase price. The weather engine, haze, lighting, and reflections are really combining to make XP11 a standout. I just installed the AlpilotX UHD mesh for the Grand Canyon area…and as expected, it is breathtaking…
I continue to be amazed with the lighting in XP11. They seemed to hit just the right amount of bloom and also very important to the feel of improvement is the variations in intensity throughout all of the cities and countryside. Some lights are brighter than others…and that gives a very realistic feel. As well, the motion of the cars in and among the structures seems really well done. Coupled with the fading haze…I’m just very impressed.
So I’m going through my inventory of add-on planes…just dabbling really. Thus far:
JAR A320neo - Does not work
Felis An-24 - Does not work (could be a problem for my Christmas flight!)
FlyJSims 727adv - Seems to work
Wilson DC-8 - Seems to work
I’m guessing that perhaps some plug-ins or stuff might be having problems…and it is a day one beta, so I’m guessing many developers will wait a bit, then dive in to getting XP11 compatibility. I was hoping everything would just plug and play…but that might not be the case with more advanced XP10 aircraft…
That said, I had an absolute blast flying the Wilson DC-8 I picked up on sale yesterday around the Boeing Field XP11 scenery area…
This was pretty punishing scenery with all my XP sliders to the right. I can’t even run maximum autogen density in XP10…so I don’t imagine it will get any better with XP11. Here I was indicating about 10FPS - once I climbed away from the city it jumped to 25 FPS. The FlyJSims 727Adv seems to be working fine…although my third engine wasn’t running when I made that takeoff…LOL…I don’t know how to start it…
I’ve only just managed an expensive migration to P3D from FSX, and I’m thinking of getting back into DCS and picking up a module or two. The LAST thing I need is someone like Beach pimping XP11 with his flair for screenshot composition.
Duh - finally figured this out. The nice Aerosoft airfields in Europe weren’t installed because I only chose N & S. America…so of course they didn’t get installed. Going to bed now though, and just turned my scenery installer back on to load the rest of the world (some 50 GB or so)… Hope Laminar has a nice data plan…!
I like the GUI - but I don’t like that they removed some of the rendering options. Apparently they still exist in the preferences.txt files and you can change them there manually…but that really shouldn’t be necessary. They should include them as advanced graphics menu options…
I’m away from my XP11 computer right now or I’d try some comparisons on this suggestion, but I’d be curious if there is any difference or if we are looking at another urban myth perpetuation… It had been suggested in XP10 to turn off thread optimization in NVidia control panel. Apparently the same is true for XP11…
“I gained significant FPS increase when I set ‘Threaded Optimization’ to off in the nVidia control panel, give that a try if not already.”
I agree, luckily there’s an option to resize the UI to 100% which is better suited to regular monitors. Can’t remember where exactly
EDIT: It’s on the bottom of the graphics settings panel, next to the checkboxes
X-Plane 11 Beta-1 is here now! X-Plane is the flight simulator that myself and my small team have been building for about 20 years, and it’s 11th major iteration is out for public beta testing now!
With more new user-interface, more accurate flight model, new scenery, ground traffic and trucks to make detailed airports, this version of X-Plane is by far the most detailed we have ever made!
