X-Plane Pacific Northwest Sceneries

Do you use Bing or USA2 (or something else)?

I used Bing. I have some areas that have a tiny bit of cloud…but it almost looks like snow fields so it doesn’t look bad. (I haven’t explored the whole state though…so there may be areas that are awful too…)

I’ve just crawled out of a half-day Utah rabbit hole but it was totally worth it. I tried to place the Hanksville Airstrips onto Forkboy2’s Utah but couldn’t get the mesh right. It wasn’t horrible but it didn’t seem to be ortho either. It certainly didn’t look like any Utah I’ve flown over. The solution was obvious. On the Forboy2/X-plane download page there is an update for Utah which corrects the mesh. Just in case anyone else out there wished to give it a try. (The canyons are truly mindblowing!)

I spent the other half of yesterday trying to make a western Montana that looked good enough for “Nine Mile” linked above. I started with Bing and ZL16. As you said, @BeachAV8R, it looked “good enough” but there were quite a few clouds captured in the satellite flyovers. Repurposing it as “snow” was clever but my suspension of disbelief has its limits. I made another using USA2 and a ZL of 17. That in combination with “Global Forests North America v2” and it’s quite nice. A lot of work must go into X-Plane in order to help it look its very best but it really pays off.

Cool…! I’m going to run those tiles again with those settings.

Again…not strictly PNW (maybe this should be more generally “West Coast Sceneries”…but this looks like a nice, if simply constructed Mariposa/Yosemite…added to the bottom of the top post.

Added a few more…again, being liberal with my interpretation of “PNW”…

OR8 - Dug Bar, Oregon:

CN98 - Walters Airstrip, Blythe, CA:

2WY8 - Bar Flying, Cody, WY:

WY06 - Luckinbill Airstrip, Cody, WY:

Added a few today (at the bottom of the top post):

O05 - Rogers Field - Chester, CA

3MT9 - Willow - Phillipsburg, MT

MT22 - Squaw Rock, MT

And a bit of a stretch for PNW (probably need a whole separate Alaska topic) but KBE - Bell Island, AK (seaplane base)…

Also added "Idaho Backcountry 1.0.0 by pilotguide that looks to feature Dovel, Simonds, Dewey Moore, Vines, and Mile Hi. I’m not sure which of these might conflict with other single airports listed above - so you may want to check and see how that works out. If you see that one of the single airports is better than those in this package, you can probably have this package load below the preferred package in your scenery.ini file…

Have you done any comparo’s between these and FS2020 - knowing that you probably can’t comment on this, yet, but thought I’d ask anyway

Where’s the runway? :yum:

Actually…I haven’t. I’ll see if I can poke around the Idaho area this week.

Here is a good real life look at it…link starts where it gets interesting…

Shaving some tree branches.

So I’m not sure if it is a lot of people exploring MSFS or what…but the scenery generation for X-Plane has definitely slowed down a bit. But saw this one pop up by great scenery designer LPNils - Alsek River, Alaska. Link added to the first post.
