Mumble, mumble, Concorde, mumble mumble Comet, mumble… ![]()
Ok point taken…but was excited and bear in mind how weak at the knees I get for planes that people don’t look at twice ![]()
Ah! Like the F-111! ![]()
Talking of Concorde, I flew through CDG last week and we taxied right past the Concorde they have on display.
I never realised how small it was. Compared to today’s planes it looked tiny.
And some more info here also ( there are links to the older news as well )
I am too lazy for screens. Plus this observation may be of something incorporated years ago and I am only just now up to speed. So anywho…I was flying around the default NYC in some strange homage to 9/11 and discovered (for myself) the considerable work that has been put into Manhattan. Liberty Tower and the 9/11 memorial have been rendered very nicely. The Statue of Liberty is surprisingly well done even up close in a hover. It’s probably about the nicest bit of polygon modeling I have seen in XP. Yeah, I know, “its been like this for years!” If that’s the case, sorry. But I figure there must be someone out there that’s as slow on the uptake as I am.
Actually, the default NYC scenery was recently updated. I haven’t looked at it close up though. Maybe I should.
Yeah…that was recently added…might even have been 11.35 that added some major landmarks. I do love Dzerwhiskytangofoxtrot’s version of NYC and NYC airports - but you do need some horsepower to run it!
I like it too. But living next to the city I see the skyline change monthly. The OSM autogen buildings seem more authentic to me. His airports are outstanding though.
Haven’t tried it yet…but this is a pretty good looking freeware SA315B Lama… I expect a full pilot report @smokinhole ![]()

Oh just great…thanks @BeachAV8R, now I’ve got the theme from M* A* S* H* running though my head… ![]()
I am partial to the DC-10-30. Good looking from every angle and flies with your fingertips. Plus you get a flight engineer to keep you company if the other guy’s a dud.
Full report? Well we’ll see about that. I really need to learn how to fly helicopters before I presume to judge the virtual ones. Although this limitation hasn’t stopped me yet.
I figured that the free 172 “Workhorse” that @BeachAV8R introduced me to yesterday was such a nice surprise that I would pay if forward by buying something. This is a very pleasant handling little helicopter. It also has a feature than I’ve not yet thought of: a twist throttle! Many of you may know that I am a constant proselytizer of VR controls. Well this one allows you twist as you pull, just as you would any helicopter without a governor. There are a couple of failure modes that I have yet to figure out. One has you spinning uncontrollably to the right with what should be plenty of reserve tailrotor authority. The other is an unrecoverable free-fall with low power and relatively high speed. I think this may be a mast bumping issue due to improper disk loading.
Oh wow…so it has a twist throttle and collective together and (of course) cyclic and pedals?

That man has talent. The mini-500 on the other hand has a correlator. So it’s actually pretty easy.
And speaking of the -500, the BrettS’ real-sized version is an old X-P favorite. It has been updated here.
On top of that another sim genius made some much needed enhancements including full VR support. She still slips and slides while idling on the ramp. (Seems like that would be easy to fix, no?) But other than that, it is greatness in four blades.

Regarding the Lama above. Tried it. No VR support. I have been on a yearlong XP joystick embargo. So I have nothing to offer on this one.
Great if you want the 757 for the first time. But if you want to upgrade…
That’s $999!
Now I am sure that’s a typo. But I’m not a buyer anyway. I like the steam gauges in our fleet. It’s a break from 20 years on (mostly) the 737 NG and the A320 before that. But, the fact that we haven’t made this upgrade is the clearest indicator that the 757 will soon go away. ![]()
Edit: I’ve noticed that there is an upgrade coupon in my account. When I apply it, it gives me $979 off! $20 is better but I think I’ll save for another helicopter.
I don’t have that coupon…bummer for me then. ![]()
