Same here. I first noticed it, in VR, when XP11 started using Vulkan; while the FPS weren’t significantly higher, it was mush steadier…smoother…overall - useable in VR. That was on a 1080 with a 6700K processor.

Roadmap
Same here. That’s where I do all my heavy iron flying.
wrong thread? this should go to ‘visual jokes …’

edit: ok saved you few clicks
from the extended list this one counts
Improved CPU Performance
Thanks to our new “modern collector” – the code that the sim uses to find all the scenery necessary to draw. We know that many users are now CPU-bound in X-Plane and this is step one to improve their experience in the sim.
I don’t want to be (too) critical … but isn’t this the weirdest point in a product lifecycle to increase the price? GI would expect most people who would buy it, already have, and if they have not … what feature is being added to pull more people in after a price increase? Weird point to increase a price.
Maybe a sort of combo between ‘feel the quality, this is a luxury item for smarter people, the high price proves that!’ and just Austin seeing the price of JET-A going up.
Best guess sales wise they are about 5% of the MSFS player base, but that’s been pretty much steady since before it came along anyway. Their team is bigger now but I would suspect earlier profits weren’t reinvested, so they need the cash. Anyone ‘sim curious’ isn’t getting X-Plane, so maybe the price point doesn’t matter, as the reason to go get it isn’t about how much it costs just that it exists as an alternative.
This.
I’ve been on the fence with XP12. I really enjoyed XP11 and I’ve been monitoring 12 but, simply put, there’s just not enough substance there, yet, to get me to purchase. I’d rather prioritize MSFS for the free time I have right now, and up until a couple weeks ago I was limited on drive space anyway.
Now I feel like they’re trying to strong arm folks into a purchase for a quick cash injection. Give us your money now or we’ll make you pay 34% later!
But what value has been added? Perhaps I’d be slightly happier if it was part of announced EA gameplan, but this rubs me the wrong way.
For now, I’ll be holding off and I’ll reevaluate another time.
in my never ending quest for performance I have settled for now on MSFS.
strangely it just performs better on my machine than XP12. thats why I like their future focus on CPUs.
but still, as you have mentioned boomerang, there is nothing significant on the XP12 horizon as a whole.
we can only hope that the ‘projects they are not ready to share’ are going to be significant steps in the right directions.
My thoughts exactly. It may not be as ‘pretty’ as XP12 or MSFS, but XP11 scatches my GA and Commercial aviation itch. This announcement makes me even less likely to purchase it.
What sort of new features would make people hit the buy button at $80?
I guess performance for me, but maybe no hassle streaming ortho? Dunno.
No hassle ortho… That would make me hit the buy button at the current price?
The only thing holding me back from MSFS is my current ‘investment’ in XP11 aircraft (although a lot of them also have a licence that includes the XP12 version).
That would be a big one for me. I mean, I have already paid for XP12, but right now I am choosing MSFS because it just looks better and I don’t have to make that happen.
Mostly, I am just wondering about the timing, really.
That’d be a pretty big plus if I knew that was coming. A partnership with Google to get Google Earth 3D buildings?
Even just no-hassle ortho that you could download for your favorite regions would be a step-up.
Knowing I’d have to put hours of work into getting ortho, aircraft, etc, into XP12 is definitely a consideration. I would certainly be more inclined if all of my purchased XP11 aircraft were fully compatible with 12, but that’s not the case.
I’d like to think that I enjoy a history here of being one of X-Plane’s most “vocal” fans. Maybe making constant noise about something does not equate to love but love it is. From the bottom of my heart they are nuts if they think that raising the price is the answer. They want FAA approval. To that end they are devoting ever more resources to continue to make XP the most accurate consumer sim available. It must be a very expensive proposition.
But what will that do to the market? New fans will mostly come to X-Plane from MSFS. Yes, they will jump over to a more accurate sim but also to a much less visually compelling one. That is already a tough leap to make. Why make it harder?
MSFS is growing the market. The sim (or “game”) is exposing the genre to a million first-time users. So while X-Plane has permanently lost users to MSFS, it has also gained fans who, for whatever reason, want to broaden their new hobby. Branching out is way easier when the price is competitive.
PS. I keep hitting the wrong tone today. So here are my personal numbers: in November 2022 I bought an XBOX for the sole purpose of playing MSFS. Since then I have played MSFS at least 300 hours and have played X-Plane maybe two. By claiming that people will come from MSFS to X-Plane, I did not mean that they would dump one for the other but would continue to enjoy both.
Yeah, practically disagree with all that but there’s no arguing with pilots when it comes to flight sims, so best to leave it there.
some of the XP11 modules were transferred over, however, they dont perform well in XP12. so it make sense in some cases to stick with the XP11 for now. better to watch closely ones particular modules. I hate it as the information are many times spread across many sites.
XP12 saw some improvements in flight models, engine models, w&b, etc. and the devs didnt take the extra effort to polish the modules after simple port. like this DWS F-16D (actively awaiting bug fixes from devs), or CS Bell206 (abandoned by the devs).
not satisfied
XP12 is $40 on the Autumn Steam sale.
…I may not be on the fence anymore.
