Yankee Air Pirate (RW)

I got the mods working. Changing the setting I posted above works very well.
But, next challenge.

The control settings are pretty messed up. What I edit in the in-game controls options customization UI, wont properly be saved into the INI file.
It honestly looks like, as if every command in the UI is ‘shifted’ a bit into the INI files.

So Beach, how did you map those controls?

Odd - assuming the ini is not read only. Try running the game as administrator if not already doing so - that is right click the exe and “run as administrator”.

That’s what prompted me to delete all the SF2 folder from my HDD indefinitely, last year.

Every time I started a mission one or more of the controls would be messed up.

I tried and tried. Saving after each single keybind assignment. And still…

I will forever have good memories of SF2 but I’m through and done.

IIRC - either for Win 7 or after, MS added more protections for things like “Program Files” - so installing outside of that, Running as admin and using the compatibility modes was best practise. Currently running it on Win 11 okay.

It’s definitely not a matter of access rights to the file. They are stored, one can see that in the correct modification timestamp of the file. I can even find the keys / button mappings in the file, but not associated with the correct function.

Let’s say I used Joystick 1 Button 15 for flaps.
joystick 1 button 15 will be in the file. But not for flaps.

Note:
This is for YAP modded SF2 Vietnam.

Vanilla SF2 Israel for example took my bindings correctly.

I remember reading somewhere in the last few weeks that the controls for this mod were initially setup by the Italian team using the Italian keyboard character set or something like that. I too was having the frustrations of the non-binding controls until I deleted everything but the “default.ini” or whatever the file is (I’m not at my computer right now) and just modifying that file and things are working fine now. I’ll see if I can find the reference to it…

Also this for the whole MOD folder stuff…

First of all, I would like to say that it’s great to be flying on SFP2 again and to discover this version of YAP! Thank you very much for sharing this @BeachAV8R !

After that, I had the same command issue, which I solved by copying my command file from my SFP2 Vietnam. It seems to be working well since.

How do i play this? With Kc135 etc…

For the installation, I did two very simple things:
I copied these two files into my SFP2 folder and then renamed them “StrikeFighters2 RW”.

I then went to the saved game and created a folder with the same name, then I copied the contents of the zipped mod folder into it and everything works perfectly for the moment!

After the first launch, it creates the right files “options”, etc.

Deleting the file did it.
Thanks for sharing this.

(although I am embarrassed of myself I did not try this by myself)

Training Mission 05 has us in the Huey at Can Ho. Now…as the detailed briefing implies…helicopter physics aren’t the best in Strike Fighters…but I found a delicate touch and some thinking ahead made the mission quite easy. I mapped the “collective” to the little throttle friction axis on the Warthog throttle…and kept the throttle as “the throttle”. Grudgingly I didn’t mess with push for power…

Straightforward (and uncontested) mission. Fly over to a base, drop some troops off…then recover to an airbase…

I kept my “collective” slider at about 50% to give me around 130 knots. “Collective” is mapped as thrust vectoring in the settings menu…

Look at that Lance…the waves…they break both ways…

Ease on into the insertion point. Slow and steady is the key to not losing control…

Deploy the troops on touchdown…

Then off we go for the base…

Another short simulation of simulation. Since air-to-air refueling is not modeled in Strike Fighters 2…this is just some pretty formation flying…

This screen makes me think either the C-130 model or HH-53 model are not the proper scale. I think the HH-53 is almost as big as a C-130…I mean…not quite…but close…

Today we start the first of four intercept training missions. Obviously SF2 has some simplified radar modeling…but it sure is nice to just hit a couple buttons to cycle through targets and not get buried in switches and knobs. I enjoy that sometimes too…but this is a nice break.

Off we go towards the target range…

As described in the briefing…the drone target shows up on the scope offset maybe 30° left of the nose. Still learning the scope - the other briefing page describes much of it.

Locked and in range…

Training Mission 08 is the second in the four-series intercept set. This one is forward quarter, high closure rate intercept. This one attempts to teach using the limits of the radar azimuth to plan and execute an intercept by arcing around to come up behind for a heat-seeker missile shot…

Target acquired…

In my haste I launch an AIM-7 Sparrow…not according to the mission profile…this is supposed to be a tail-end chase with an AIM-9 Sidewinder shot…
