2nd Annual Mudspike Christmas Flight AAR Thread

Auto-gate addon, telling me when to stop for the jetbridge, neat!

This was a fun flight, learned a lot about how the CIVA functions, very interesting to do longer flights. You get a lot of respect for the pilots in the 60’ that had quite a substantial workload during the flight.

@BeachAV8R I can see now why you have taken the venerable Antonov! Planning my route further down the coast, but the fields that make landing a 737 a comfortable experience are far and few inbetween. I can land on most of em, but it won’t be easy.

Yes…the Antanov can squeeze into some of the smaller ones. That CIVA is really cool. I expect your next aircraft to use sextant navigation! LOL…

I think I’ve found a solution, like any sane person I went with a shorter fuselage, more engines and longer wings. In short, the 727-100 ;). I might switcharoo between the 721 and the 732 on my way south, they are both so much fun!

EDIT: Might not use the 727, it has no manuals included, only a brief 20 page introduction. Common complaint and proper study sim manuals were supposed to be included months ago… Bit of a downer.

If there’s a properly simulated Dehavilland Comet I just might!

If I can’t get my Antanov An-24RV working in X-Plane 11, I might have to rethink my ride. I didn’t have a lot of time to troubleshoot, but when I tried it the first few times with XP11 it was spawning with the gear retracted and I could figure out a way to get it extended and reload the aircraft. I’ll experiment more when I get home…but I hope I can get it working…

It’s a 727, what more do you need? Push the throttle forward to go faster, pull it back to go slower. Etc. etc.

Yeah, been figuring out how that bugger works on my own, for example engine 2 is bleed air connected with the APU and does not require a valve to be opened. I wonder if E2 is started first though. It has some manual CSD and load balancing controls that I am not exactly sure how they work, I get that it doesn’t use a wild frequency but a sync’d gen system, although that looks partially manual.

Yeah…I booted the 727 up to try it in X-Plane 11…and it appears to work…but I started it with engines running. Oddly enough, the #3 engine wasn’t running though. So I just proceeded to do a 2 engine takeoff…which worked, but I wasn’t sure I’d have enough runway to get airborne at KPHX. Once I was airborne, I went back to the Flight Engineer panel and the overhead panel and tried to get #3 started…but I couldn’t figure it out…LOL… Another semi-cold and dark failure…

We still have more then month to Christmas  …nope I plan to switch continuously to bigger planes on my way.

Btw adding another ‘crash’ to our list:
In the middle of first leg, somewhere after Newport (KONP) I left PC and decided to Pause instead of Save. During doing real life stuff I got short power cut in my house and my PC restarted! …

Edit: btw I found SkyVector provides approach charts for US airports by default, great!

Restarted from Newport (wondering why no signal from 112.1 North Band VOR ?? - probably terrain, on radial now)

Unmarked 727-100 Acceptance flight, pay’d for in unmarked bills and about half the shovels we took for the winter runway preparation festivities ;).

Glad to have 3 engines, managed to shut one down mid flight and turn it on again, the EGT ran a bit hot for comfort though… It’s a fun and fast bugger, happily sitting at 350 IAS without much effort.

The engineer has quite a nice view!

Fortunately after last night most of the scientists are already drunken enough that I might as well load em all in a Cessna without them realizing the difference. Besides, this 727 has 4 galley stations on 2 circuits. I’ve opted to load up on whatever local alcoholic brew was nearby. Hopefully they are all in a spirit induced coma by the time I wrestle this aircraft into whatever field the Columbian highlands offer me!

Man…you are flying a party bus!

The Eastern livery has Whisperjet on the nr 2 engine cowling. I really want to change that to partyjet now!

Next stop, Colombia!

wait…

Colombia? Party Jet?

This will take a bad ending…

Naaah, you seen Flight with Denzel Washington? You see, you can do it…

And drunken scientists!

I am hopeing they haven’t noticed our delay on the taxi way… the CIVA INS was still on Align instead of on Nav mode, so it threw errors as soon as I started pushback! Realigning now…

I felt so cool engineering from the back seat during pushback though!

@TheAlmightySnark and @BeachAV8R the DreamFleet Boeing 727 for FS9 is one of my all time favorite flight sim aircraft. IRL, I spent many hours on EAL B727-100 and 200, including a bunch of jump seat rides. The DreamFleet 727 had all of the sounds down perfectly, especially the trim wheel clicks and enunciators that I remembered. Too bad that the (FlightOne) DreamFleet team didn’t update neither the B727 or their great A36 for FSX.

Some very old screenshots…

We’ve come far since FS9!

I warmed up my calculator… and I can do this in my Shawk!
(727 is really great looking plane, hope I will try it someday)

I would not recommend, the developers seems to have abandoned it and not offer any support .I’ve been running in bugs that have been left open since last summer… Bit of a downer to be honest.
