Aginor's weird NFL thread

I promise to stop beating this horse in a couple hours. I’m still in shock. LOL…back to DCS!

And with that I want to say “Thank You” to y’all for participating in my NFL thread this season!
There’s not a lot of people that I can talk to about American Football so I really appreciate being able to talk about it with y’all!

As a typically non-sports follower…it has been lot of fun! I don’t much follow baseball or basketball at all. I know college basketball is super popular where I live (March Madness and all). My only big event that I really love watching every year is the Tour de France. I watch it religiously.

Yes thanks for this thread Aginor, I haven’t participated much mainly because you guys said it all for me, oh and I’m a Redskins fan so that explains it too.

Le Tour goes through my village this year, for the first time I can go out my door and watch it go by then 2 mins later back home to see the rest on TV.

Also a Tour follower. My wife and I followed it for 2 weeks in 2002 and 2004, covering the second half of each day’s stage. We rode most of the famous climbs with a group from Atlanta, and those were some most memorable experiences of our lives.

I have a dream where I’m in good enough shape to do the Col du Tourmalet, Ventoux, or the the Alpe d’Huez… Maybe I should go down to Greenville, SC and hand out with Hincapie and Van de Velde…

I was on a group ride one day after work and managed to look at the big dude next to me. It was George with his Trek kit. He was good friends with one of the guys in our group and they had a plan that about 5 mls in he would come out of a driveway or side road and quietly merge with the group. It was hilarious. Without opening up a can of worms (would need another thread), the Lance years were good for cycling in the US. So many people began riding, floundering small bike shops flourished, and bike paths were built. It didn’t end well, but the positive effects are still there. At least for a generation.

Holy crap, that’s amazing. I definitely would have freaked out at that too.

Yeah - I’m a realist with the Lance years. I’m “meh” about his culpability in all of it when put up against what was going on at the time. Whatever the case, Hincapie was a monster for Lance all those years. I always enjoy stages where the hard working squad Lieutenant manages a stage victory (or even a brief period on yellow - ala Geraint Thomas or Tony Martin)…

As a long time fan, I’ll miss a lot of the characters I’ve watched over the years that aren’t going to be there such as Spartacus and Voekler. It’s fun to watch the sprint rivalries though. I really wish’d Contador and Quintana could have given Froome a bit more of a run the past few years…but Froome is a machine.

Yup, Only 1 Punt,

Every other drive was TD, FG, or Missed FG (In the Case of NE’s Ray Finkle)

Hope the cycling hasn’t hi-jacked the football and this will be my last reference to it, promise. Remembering Voeckler, he was a great rider but the peloton’s biggest drama queen. He loved the spotlight being on him, anyways I was roadside watching the GP Plouay (big world tour race held near me). He came off his bike quite near to me and was just about to get back on it when the tv motorbike pulled up. On seeing this he rolled around as if he was on the point of dying and gesticulating at everyone. Minute later off went the motorbike and realising he wasn’t being filmed he jumped back on smartly and set off like a rocket. He was fun to watch though, I loved the faces he pulled when climbing.

We obviously need a :biking_man: :biking_woman: :biking_man: thread!

I would…but then I’d have to avoid it like the plague during the Tour since I usually DVR it, then watch it over a period of weeks and months. Once, I only finally finished the reviewing of the previous year’s Tour only a few weeks before July and the start of the next one! LOL. It is because I like to DVR it, and then watch it when I’m on my stationary bike.

dusts off thread

Only a few weeks to go until some NFL football.
Finally.

To get into football mood I am watching the football European Championship right now.
Six teams left in the finals:
Finland, UK, France, Denmark, Sweden, and Austria. European Champion Germany is not there because of… some trouble with the association.

I’ll be honest with you: it isn’t NFL level. It isn’t even College level. It is… well… decent high school level maybe.
Austria and France are probably the teams with the highest chances and even those would most likely lose against any US college football team.

Still fun to watch. Right now it is Sweden vs. Denmark. Denmark being a bit better right now (0-14)
It seems they love their cover 3 defense. Sweden passes a lot so that fits.

Not gonna lie, with everything that’s been going on over here in the off season, I’m finding myself less and less interested in keeping up this year, even with the change in ownership of my team, and a planned trip to Pittsburgh and a Steelers game in October.

Fill me in, I might have missed some things.

Thanks, yeah it is probably best to keep this thread to the sports side of things.

Anyway, the Sweden - Denmark game has become more interesting. Sweden’s defense did some work and allowed the offense to score. 24-14 with 5 minutes on the clock.

Sweden turned that 0-14 from the first quarter into a 30-20. Not bad, some nice plays in that game.

France vs. GBR looks a lot better now. Those Frenchmen can play.
Their head coach is Patrick Esume, a German who has NFL experience as assistant coach for the Browns and the Raiders, and also works as a NFL commentator for the German TV station that I watch.
