Air Hauler 2 for X-Plane discussion thread

Bear Valley, CA (73CA) is certainly no joke in an underpowered rig… 3,200’ of runway is nice, but needed with the elevation at 7,073’…! I didn’t think I’d make it off. Make sure you lean it out!

Nice! can you list the names of these airports/stripes, other than 73CA? Also the one from yesterday?

That looks like Allan Burrows by PropStrike Studios.

Not much to offer unfortunately. It seems that X-Plane has enjoyed a long running bug where tailwheel airplanes depart the runway uncontrollably in a crosswind if that runway is unpaved. Middle age has pegged my patience needle hard against the left stop. So other than playing with the DC-3 on occasion I don’t bother much with tailwheel stuff.

If they’ve fixed that already will someone please kindly let me know? :mask:

Curious as to where one might find that undulating airstrip, in the last pic? Amazing shots, you really manage to find some rugged looking bushstrips.

Oh, and tried 11S yesterday, flying in from Skagit, with no GPS, a ceiling of 1000 feet, in rain and poor visibility.
It doesn’t always take a screaming RWR to get the ole ticker going
Btw, the Taxi way at 11S is severely warped though, is there a way to flatten that I wonder? Using Orbx TE.

You can flatten any airport if you go into the WED program and tick the Always Flatten box. Sometimes it has undesirable effects on the surrounding terrain. It essentially makes a flat box around the area of the airport.

All of the shots in the last couple of posts were from the awesome Wookie1 sceneries that I added on to my ORBX South California. He has churned out some great, challenging fields…

Good find there!

Hey, that looks like a good collection there, I’m afraid this new 4TB HD is going to fill up all to quick!
Will take a look at that WED editor thingie, and see if I can figure it out.

Its pretty easy to do once you get it installed. Lots of youtube out there on using WED. I just used it to take the ortho out of those wookie airports so it matches the ortho I’m using.

Good job on taking out the ortho - I’m leaving it in because it makes it easier to find the airports…haha…I’m suspending my disbelief and pretending like the airport authority has massive sprinklers installed to water the brown grass and make it green…

If you had to recommend two orbx products to start with assuming participation in ah2 with you guys, what would you recommend? Washington I assume, and?

Actually, in the USN distance is measured in furlongs. Speed is measured in furlongs per fortnight. :slightly_smiling_face:

Oregon. It just makes sense from a continuity perspective. North and South California are really gorgeous - the only thing that really pushes me to enjoying Oregon and Washington is that they tend to get the more awful weather. And…Washington and Oregon border Idaho…which is the ultimate bush flying destination (I’d love for Orbx to head that way next…)…

(10 Mudspike points for first identify the film eluded to…must also provide actor and scene.)

It’s like baking an enormous digital pie in the oven. 60C cores for 11 hours results in 42 tiles of sweet, sweet, ZL16 ortho. Delicious.

Looks like it turned out pretty good. Here and there you can see a miscolored bit of satellite imagery…and the seam where some of the tiles line up can sometimes have a slightly different color. And I’m guessing they aren’t 100% cloud free images in some areas, but it is largely fine. Color matching, blending, getting rid of imagery artifacts and custom object placement…those are the things you pay a company like ORBX to do.

Over toward Revelstoke…

Perhaps someone with more time on their hands could have a look on how Ortho4xp does the tile thingy. In theory you could build up a base colour profile of a few tiles, then batch apply them to the lot of em via a application like Darktable or one of the terminal related dependencies. I think…
