Air Hauler 2 for X-Plane discussion thread

Is he really pushing up those hydro wires? That thing is WAY over loaded and over height.

Reminds me of when I had to back a 40 foot intermodal container into a residential basement. (stupid importers). A lady actually had to use a pole to push the hydro wires up for me as I backed under them.

Trucking … living the dream.

So a bit more information on building a plane using a factory. As I said, I’m in Portland, OR (KPDX) and there was an extensive list of aircraft parts from 172s all the way up to MD82s. I’ve decided to go ahead and build a Kodiak Quest since that would be my next “stepping stone” aircraft anyway. If my factory were to ONLY build a Kodiak, it would not be worth the expenditure ($800K factory startup + parts and shipping) - you could simply buy or lease a Kodiak for less money than that. But I want the experience and “quest” of finding the parts for a “Quest”…haha…

Plus, down the line, I can still use the MAX factory in Pullman to build even bigger planes where it does become more cost effective/attractive.

So I bought three Kodiak parts (Cockpit, Tail Section, and Undercarriage) for a combined price of $58,512.

I wasn’t sure what would happen after I bought them, but thankfully it pops up with a “Ship Part to Base” box - I was relieved that I wouldn’t have to figure out a way to actually transport the parts in my plane. That both frees me up to continue flying and making money and avoids the pitfall of not having a plane big enough to move parts (chicken and the egg syndrome). Shipping costs are completely reasonable - $450 to $1500 for the parts I was buying.

AH-0475

So those three parts are on the way to Pullman. According to the AH2 manual, I will need:

  • Cockpit :white_check_mark:
  • Fuselage
  • Tail Section :white_check_mark:
  • Port Wing
  • Starboard Wing
  • Undercarriage :white_check_mark:
  • Engine(s)

So I’m already well on my way to completing construction. Apparently the parts are randomized around the world - I’m not sure which airports carry what parts, but I’m going to assume that it is the bigger airports (Seattle, Portland, etc…) that might have good parts inventories since some small airports have no commodities.

This is an interesting feature and adds another dimension to the Air Hauler 2 career mode.

Also - there is a Part Finder tab under the Factories & Construction menu - it looks like you can search for parts too - it appears that a Port Wing is available at KGEG and an Undercarriage at KRLD. So I might need to swing by Spokane to secure that Port Wing. This provides a good opportunity to simultaneously find a commodity to take with me to finance these parts quests.

Really? You purchased an undercarriage? They are completely overrated.

Certified pre-owned…

Got me a Port Wing for $44,470…

  • Cockpit :white_check_mark:
  • Fuselage
  • Tail Section :white_check_mark:
  • Port Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Starboard Wing
  • Undercarriage :white_check_mark:
  • Engine(s)

Now I just have to find a Fuselage, Starboard Wing, and Engine…

And update on the MAX factory at Pullman - currently at 14% construction…

Oh no!

Curse you CRAFTING!

Normally I loath the practice as yet another layer of grind. (I’m talking to you Red Dead Redemption). But this is kind of a cute implementation. I, however, will continue to acquire planes the old-fashioned way: by spending gobs of money on them or digging into my daughter’s college fund to pay down a loan.

Wait until Air Hauler 3 when you get to build your own pilot character and dress him!

:astonished:

I like how the guy filming just moves the camera off the window after the wheel falls off…“Yep, nothing to see out there…anymore.”

Any info on this?

I read somewhere that the port and starboard wings should “match”–same size and meant for the same type of aircraft–else you tend to fly in circles.

Let us know how much the total parts costs come out to. Interesting to see the savings here.

That’s a good idea! Start with Ship Simulator (haven’t even looked at it in a few years) - haul it from port-to-port; truck it to the airport, then Skywagon it somewhere; truck it again…ok, maybe this won’t work

I’ll let you know - if you exclude the factory opening costs (600K), I think it will definitely come out cheaper. But like I said, if you ONLY were going to build something small…then continued leasing or buying from the market would probably make more sense. I’ll bet building a big transport would come out way cheaper though. I’ll keep you up to date.

So yeah - I flew up to CYYJ on a commodity run and also looking for Kodiak parts. When I got there I see there is a Kodiak Undercarriage (I already own one) for sale in the aircraft parts section. So visiting different airports will reveal more parts. Now that I’ve visited the field, that part shows up in the Part Finder catalog. Apparently the parts do go in and out of stock too though…so you have to hop on them when you see them, and you pretty much have to wander around if you want to complete your build.

(Little did @BeachAV8R know that I had also been searching for airports with the parts he needs, and bombing the warehouses with my MiG-21…He will never get his plane built!

Ha ha ha Ha! HA HAAAA HA HA! )

[that’s supposed to be a maniacal laugh…evidently no emoji for that…go figure ]

Sounds like the old EECH campaign where you could stop airbases from generating aircraft, helicopters, and armor by taking out the vehicle generator buildings…

And an important distinction here. I didn’t make this assumption, but I’m not the brightest guy in the room.

There are Aircraft Parts and Aircraft (Commodity) Parts. There could obviously be some confusion there. I saw forum members over at Air Hauler asking if they could build a factory to create Aircraft Parts out of Tier 1 items. I think you can, but you can’t then assemble those parts into an airplane.

I believe Slopey said he is going to remove Aircraft (Commodity) Parts from the commodity section due to the confusion that creates.

Dang. I thought I was gonna luck out in Vancouver (CYVR). Took some commodities in there on my Kodiak Parts Scavenger Hunt and they have a huge list of parts…but only one Kodiak part (Tail Section) which I already have back at my base. Argh!

Anyway…this is fun. Basically the game has transitioned from doing Jobs to just bouncing around moving commodities and searching for aircraft parts.

Also the MAX factory is currently at 24% construction complete.

Amazing! That is EXACTLY the maniacal laugh I had in mind!
