Air Hauler 2 for X-Plane discussion thread

Man my wife would kill me if I flew ask many sim flights as you do. Jealous :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m lucky - it’s my “job” - I’m writing the Air Hauler 2 review for the magazine next month… This is research man!

Damn. The Dornier engine disappeared from PDX before Destiny could get there. Sent her on to Yakima to see if she could fine one there.

In other news though - I flew over to SFO and found a Fuselage for the Kodiak.

Never before has a Mudspiker demonstrated such perseverance. There should be an award!

I still think @Sine_Nomine’s sailboat trip takes that award…!

Well, good news. I flew from San Francisco over to San Jose and found another Dornier engine for sale there!

So Do228 parts acquisition status:

  • Cockpit
  • Fuselage :white_check_mark:
  • Tail Section :white_check_mark:
  • Port Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Starboard Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Undercarriage :white_check_mark:
  • Engine #1 :white_check_mark:
  • Engine #2 :white_check_mark:

Kodiak Quest parts acquisition status:

  • Cockpit :white_check_mark:
  • Fuselage :white_check_mark:
  • Tail Section :white_check_mark:
  • Port Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Starboard Wing
  • Undercarriage :white_check_mark:
  • Engine

So I’m one part short for each plane. The MAX Factory is at 52% construction complete.

I see Boeing 747 parts will require a lot of shrimp to be moved. A Port Wing is $11,955,195…

Is there actually a point to that outside missions?

You cant sell level 3 commodities to markets can you?

Yes! Found a Dornier cockpit in Long Beach, CA - I only had to travel the entire West Coast to find it…!

AH-0515

I love that the further you get from your factory/base, the longer it takes to ship and the more expensive. Whereas some of the parts I found up around Washington were only going to take 6 or 8 hours to ship - this one is going to take 52 hours!

AH-0516

The MAX Factory at Pullman is only at 60% construction completion anyway though…so getting the parts there faster doesn’t much help.

  • Cockpit :white_check_mark:
  • Fuselage :white_check_mark:
  • Tail Section :white_check_mark:
  • Port Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Starboard Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Undercarriage :white_check_mark:
  • Engine #1 :white_check_mark:
  • Engine #2 :white_check_mark:

Now I just need to hunt around the LA Basin for a Kodiak Quest engine and I can head back to Washington State…

I didn’t realize you shipped them. I thought you flew them (hence all my jokes).

That also explains how you have been hunting so quickly lol. I was impressed by how you’d been flying them back so quickly. I clearly was not thinking lol.

I think it will give you the option of flying them back yourself IF you are flying an airplane that has an adequate cargo carrying capacity. In my case, none of the parts I’m looking for will fit (weight) in a Cessna 207 or Husky…so they can only be shipped via ground I guess.

I’ll admit - it is a fun scavenger hunt. Just landed at LAX and though the parts list is huge here - it isn’t showing the one thing left that I need (Kodiak Fuselage)…

The rep required to lease aircraft - is that overall rep? Or would 40 cargo rep allow you to lease?

Yeah…it’s 40 overall. So it averages cargo/pax together I think.

You’ll have to reach 80 cargo rep to drag the average to 40…

I wanted to find a good gif about grinding for rep but it hit me literally as soon as I hit search that I wouldn’t find quite what I was looking for… :astonished:

The grind is one of the things that has stopped me getting into this… but at the same time It feels wrong to take an easier start point. My resolve is weakening though… 40 rep and a 172 isn’t cheating all that much.

I do wish they’d refine some aspects of it. It’d be nice if different reputation gave you access to different MTOW aircraft. Like 25 rep you could lease a C172, 40 you could lease a 737. It seems a little silly how it’s done currently.

The rep requirement for the loan is insane. You should be able to take out a small loan at 25 overall rep.

I mean technically right now I could get a second 172 and set my ai to run passenger routes. Or micromanage cargo routes. But I’m a small company atm. When I have a good amount of cash I’ll be happy to invest in some smaller passenger planes (twin Otter, something slightly bigger) for the AI to run regular routes while I have my fun.

Haha…yeah…Google search is sometimes potluck. I’ve learned things I can never forget.

I’m playing it in “phases”. I wanted to start at the minimum and grind it out using traditional cargo runs to reach the REP level. Now that I’ve reached that level…which opens up the bank to be able to take out bigger loans and lease aircraft, I’m less about doing offered cargo runs on the cargo market and am just freelancing using the commodities as I search for aircraft parts.

You could actually make enough money, even with a Husky or 172, in the commodity business to save enough money to buy a bigger plane pretty quickly. Yeah - it is gaming the game a bit to move 500 pounds of DVDs 90 miles to make $40/lb. profit, but I wouldn’t call Air Hauler authentic any more than The Sims is an authentic recreation of real life. It is…essentially…a crafting game where the crafting is done via money and REP earned.

I like the idea of a factory churning out things I want to fly though. I think I’ve put in over 60 hours of real time flying in the past couple of weeks and I’ve visited a ton of places I’ve never been in real life or in simulators…so it has been really cool. I’m excited to get some turbine bush planes so that I can go back to picking up contracts to out of the way places (bush strips) since I haven’t been visiting them in the parts search because little airports like those don’t have aircraft parts (that I’ve seen anyway).

Understand that much of your work is providing info for a PCPilot article. I look forward to reading it with enthusiasm. :slightly_smiling_face:

That said, you posts on this have been a bit intimidating to me. I don’t know if I would enjoy grinding out a lot of flights in a small plane just to get a slightly bigger small plane.

So a question for you: Can one start with turboprop–maybe a Do-228–and work up to a 727-200F in a matter of a few weeks? Or will you be answering that in the article? If so, my anticipation of reading your article just doubled!

I think there is an option to start with $2 million, 60% REP, and a 737 at the very high end of the starting options. So with that - I would think you could trade in the 737 (sell it), add the $2 million to that, and then if you had to, take out a loan to get to a 727 right off the bat. There are definitely options to start with more cash and REP. The default start options will never include an add-on plane though…they always include default aircraft, so if you want to fly something of your own (payware), you will have to sell the plane they provide and import your plane in and buy it (not hard to do).
