Edit: The sayings in actual German and their rough translations/equivalent sayings
1.: “Da haben wir den Salat.” - We’re in a right mess now.
2.: “Das Leben in vollen Zügen genießen.” - Enjoying your life to the fullest.
3.: “Wie geil ist das denn?” - That’s amazing, isn’t it?
4.: “Holla die Waldfee.” - Expression of surprise, I’m not sure there is a translation that fits quite right.
5.: “Ich verstehe nur Bahnhof.” - best equivalant I can think of is something like “It’s all Greek to me.”
I have been spending a lot of time CADding away in Plasticity to build NURBS based surfaces as a means to copy the 3D scan of the stick to a 3D model that I can divide into suitable parts for printing, basically following the concept of Authentikit and their controllers.
The real stick grip of the Viggen was designed sometime in the late 60’s, before anyone had any concept of computer aided design and modelling. The real grip has some very organic shapes, meaning that the surfaces aren’t easily translated into mathematical curves.
Here’s a video explaining NURBS modelling, BTW.
Plasticity has some very advanced yet easy to use features for creating complex models and here’s where the project is at right now. I have successfully created the most complex parts of the stick grip and I feel I will be able to conclude this project in the near future.
I just printed some OpenHornet throttle grip parts using SirayaTech Blu resin- they have a very hefty, satisfying feel to them and I think this will translate very well to a stick grip.
My partner i crime, who is in charge of the stash of gloves, will finish his exams in a week and will then take some PR photos and we’ll be in business.
Since the original grip was hand made in the 60’s and probably cast using sand molds, the new CAD designed grip will be ’cleaner’ looking. Don’t know if that’s good or bad…
I used a feature in the Slicer software that allows for controlling where the supports go, and since I’m printing at this angle to get the best possible knurls, the print needs a lot of support.
