Seeing as we have a really great rendition of the Learjet 35A for MSFS (which is on sale right now), maybe there would be some interest in flying the same route? I’m thinking I might give it a go, although it will take me a little longer to complete than the real team.
@Deacon211 I think that maybe a test run would be in order. I think that for our purposes, if the sim starts behaving oddly we should just call it close enough and head turn away from the pole.
@jenrick In the true Mudspike spirit of trek rules, I think we should fly the general route as we see fit, and in whatever aircraft we like.
Are you planning to reply the leg or just pick it up from the coast there?
I really need to write up my first leg, which I flew some time ago. I left the airplane on autopilot and went to attend to a couple of things, and when I returned I was out of fuel, gliding like a brick. I managed to deadstick into a small airfield about 30nm short of the destination. Pretty lucky!
I’ll continue on once I get my new yoke (which should be soon)…
If MSFS will let me gracefully air start there I’ll probably do that. I might also just pickup from Quito, and fly that as a fresh leg. The trip over water wasn’t terribly exciting/interesting except for finding out about Malepo Island. Other than just saying, yep I flew the whole thing in one go, I don’t feel any real need to fly that chunk again.
Yeah so MSFS did not do that gracefully, trying to use the “travel to” option left me at 5000’ with my gear down. Not terribly helpful. It’s about an hours worth of flying, so I’m conflicted on just flying the whole thing, or taking off from Quito. It’s not like I haven’t wasted an hour of my life in MSFS before, but it’s a pretty dull ocean leg.
You could start at SETN and do a short hop to Quito. I only suggest it because you would be missing out on flying into Quito which has some stunning terrain around it.
SETN is pretty much where you were when you had the CTD.
I guess Quito isn’t an official stop for this trek. I’m going to drop in there though. I flew into Quito IRL several years ago. The approach brought us fairly close to the mountains…and they are not small.
That occured to me after I had tried the “travel to” option. It won’t simulate fuel burn is about the only thing. I don’t have time this work week to fly the rest of the leg, so a moot point until tht weekend.
If you can’t remember what gas you had when the sim crashed, you can always estimate via fuel burn, G/S, and distance at least about how much you should be carrying.
