Are these tweaks worthwhile?

That’s a very interesting video and he makes a great point about how competitive gaming hardware is focused on the wrong thing.

But it’s very unlikely that you notice audio delay in DCS if you’re not looking for it (it’s not exactly the most twitchy game) and it almost certainly wouldn’t present as stutter or spikes in frame times.

Wasn’t the audio generation one of the first bits they put on a seperate thread in DCS?

Ah, WASAPI. MS s**t the bed so badly on that one that Steinberg had to write a usable low level audio API for them.

My guess is that a lot of that latency is engines having to rebuffer because you never know what completely weird buffer size WASAPI will hand you. Often times in audio processing, you want your buffers to be power of 2 sized for runtime/cache optimality.

Sorry for some newb questions. If I switch my dedicated sim PC from Win11 to Bazzite;

  1. Can I expect general performance increase over Win11?
  2. Can I expect drivers for the more obscure sim hardware out there, like Rhino FFB or Game Trix jet seat?
  3. Will Bazzite be more stable over time than Win11?

I’ve dabbled in Linux a few times over the years. I hate the constant updates to Windows. I just want my sim PC to boot and work, even after sitting unused for weeks, without a barrage of updates and random OS patches breaking things.

You can run Windows programs on Bazzite with Proton and such I beleiev I was able to get my Thrustmaster Cougar working in Bazzite so you should…

They say there is a performance increase but I did not do any lengthy testing but it seemed about the same performance as Win odws,

IT should be stable but I never had much issues with Win 10/11 and stability… Well if you had Win 11 Pro you can stay on a certain update and you can disable updates with Titus tech Program if not on Pro…

I am currently testing FSOS, it is a slimmed down and tweaked version of Win 11. it is as they say what windows should have been… I like it as I am more familiar with Windows then linux…

Linux still has wierdness just be careful what you install with sudo commands and the like as you should with Bazzite use their Program for programs and such that you would need like Discord, TS3…

Read the guide on the Bazzite site as it does have a windows like Desktop and a few things are the same but alot has changed with the Bazzite…

You should like it if you like tinkering…

Well I had discovered some tweakers on youtube and I think I mentioned it here in a previous post but I am using their custom winn 11 install called FSOS and so far it seems great…

I am getting 100% Frametimes and all are under 12ms in the fpsVR Metrics… so it was an nearly complete flatline in DCS FPS coiunter during the takeoff run way mission…

When I get a chance I am going to retest MP but for now I bought a new mosue a Razer Basiliska and I bought it because I could control the pol rat. I set it too 125hz and I think the mouse with a higher poll rate was causing my spikes in DCS.

I am going to go back in and set the poll rate to 1000hz and see if I get those spikes. If I do then I will know for certain the mouse was the cause of my spiking in the DCS FPS counter…

but DCS is running smoth as it had like before I am going to go and test Firestrike and see what score I get… so far so good glad I bought the new mouse…

well while the games run fine I am having issues running the 3D Mark benchmark Firestrike I had a top score of 48546 and now getting between 8-10000 points less…

I am on the FSOS it is a modified Win 11 and I am running in Game mode. not sure why the benchmark scores so low comapred to what I got before??

still not sure what is up with Firestrike and Steel nomad benchs. but I tried running DCS in regular win 11 pro and was getting good Frametimes but when I tried FSOS I was getting about a .5 better difference meaning the Frametimes were that much lower in MS.

I did get 99.9% in both CPU and GPU in Regular win and in the modded FSOS version about 100%in GPU and 99.9% with a higher average FPS…

So altho the increase was slight but FPS avg. was better by 4-5fps I think FSOS is pretty good… I would need to boot into regualr win11 and see if my scores in Firestrike are better or they too suffer from low FPS…

Now sure what happened it is like I am on a way slower PC but it all is the same… not sure why I scored so high the other times…

I did try a new tweak and it seemes to have worked a bit in Latency mon my noskrnl wasway lower then when I did not mod the 2 things I changed with a power program and it added some new settings in the power scheme where I could set it from 98% too 100%…

But they say with using FSOS many tweaks are not needed as it has been tweaked a bit then it was in regular win11… They do offer a service that they will have a member of the team tweak your PC altho it is a bit spendy and I am unsure it it would truly help…
