Astronomy shots

I spent some more time imaging M16 while I was out in Hawaii. I have played with the resulting image in PixInsight, using a process to create a ‘Hubble Palette’ version that emphasizes the Hydrogen Alpha and Oxygen III regions of the nebula. The result isn’t too bad for a first attempt. Blue areas are rich in Oxygen and red is predominantly Hydrogen.

Just thinking about the dimensions of that nebula makes my head hurt. Space is incredible.

Another shot of the “Pillars of Creation” in the Eagle Nebula (M16). This is still a work in progress and I have cropped out more of the image than I would like, but the calibration frames are giving me a hard time. This is looking promising though. This one was taken over two nights with my main rig.

It’s getting to be a long thread!

I solved a problem I was having with the flat frames, and the image looks much better now. I’m still going to play with the colors to produce a Hubble Pallette vertion ,but I think this one looks quite natural, which I kind of prefer.

and finally (I promise)… this is closer to what you would capture without using filters.

Which of the two do you guys prefer?

The top one for me. Can’t explain why though. Incredible work, Paul!

Same.

I’m enjoying all your pictures. :star_struck:

I will also go with the first one :grinning: beautiful picture

It seems we have a consensus. I’m really quite happy with this one, to the point where I think it would be worth getting it printed on metal or glass. I might bump up the saturation a little on the first one and see how it turns out.

they both look incredible!

for me the first one looks too natural.

the second one though looks more spacey or sci-fi if you will. like the gasses are more pronounced with the brighter lively colours.

I played around with it just a little more (even though I promised not to) and came up with this… and I just pulled the trigger to get a metal print of it. We will see how it comes out. I went with a 10x20inch print. Hopefully it will come out nicely and not too washed out.

That is oustanding… I would like to see a photo of the print you ordered.

I’ll post a photo when it gets here. :sunglasses:

With my bad influencer hat on, ZWO is having a sale that started yesterday. It includes a discount on the Seestar. In the US it seems to be $50 off the usual price, so it might be a good time to pick one up. The sale price over here is $450.

perfect :ok_hand:

My favorite of the group. Wow!

My metal print arrived yesterday…

It came out quite nicely, although there are a couple of things that I will do differently next time.
I will go for a matte finish rather than gloss. Also I will bump up the brightness and color saturation a little bit on the image I upload to the printer’s website.

Even so, I really like the result. I ended up hanging it in my ‘offfice’ .
