Aviation Recognition Challenge Thread

…and this is why we shouldn’t have removed chat.

Well, I admit it is painfully obvious on the ground, but when I drive around in Frankfurt and I see a jet on final I think:

  • Two engines,
  • white
  • wings

→ yep, that’s an airliner!
Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier. They look all the same to me.

The jet airliners I can recognize are:

  • 747 (don’t ask about the sub-versions. I only see the hump)
  • A380 (has two rows of windows)
  • 787 (has thin, curved wings)
  • Bombardier CRJ…something. Looks like a flying pencil, with a just…too long fuselage. But then, same goes for the Fokker 100 for example (yes, I had to google that. I suck in civil aviation)

Wait, are people not in on the dank memes?

@Fearlessfrog

Also I can generally pick apart the various members of the Boeing family, but Airbuses are indecipherable to me.

If it’s falling out of the sky due to iced-over pitot tubes while gracefully maintaining its roll/pitch limits of 20 degrees, HON HON, C’EST L’AIRBUS, NON?

Since the thread’s been sidetracked, I’m going to take the initiative and post this one:

Moving along swiftly now.

EDIT: Oh hey, Ivan found a camera.

Alas they don’t… I thought it was hilarious, the only thing missing was a little Pierre Spey ■■■■

That’s an order of magnitude better than my best guess of ‘Dandruff Sea-Skimmer’.

MiG Ye-8, Comrade.

Let us continue the Soviet theme.

It’s a really, really cool project that was probably too ambitious and probably would never have worked.

Yakovlev Yak-28!

Dang I was gonna say Il-28 lol

who knows this one?

no, it’s not a MiG-21

Chengdu J-7?

false

Huh. It looks a lot like a 60’s era Sukhoi interceptor (Su-9, Su-11). Warmer?

colder than @Andrew116’s answer, actually

Could it be a J-8-I?

winner! it’s a Shenyang J-8-I
