It will affect the whole game, or if you chose to set it globally even the whole PC.
Since the menu goes beyond 500 FPS (it was > 800 in the MSFS update for me) even a conservative value of 200 would not hurt normal use but prevent extreme load.

I set the FPS limit to 150 but the 3090 still pushes on at max throttle…
I can heat up the entire upper floor of our house, with the excess heat being expelled through the radiator…!
That sounds bad. I haven’t touched MSFS in a while and want to try the new patch over the weekend. I’ll report how it goes
I found that vsync and framerate limiters had no effect. So I went into Radeon Software / Performance / Tuning / manual voltages and clock speeds and set the clock speed limit to 60%. That brought me down to 700 from 1100 fps and seemes to calm the coils and fans, and temperatures went to reasonable levels for moderate load.
This seems like a crazy oversight from MSFS!
I would rather not dabble with the clock speeds myself, not knowing anything about things really…but it’s a bit rubbish that in 2021 software developers don’t account for things that can potentially fry stupidly expensive software. I’m astonished!
Asking for a friend - what do you guys think of a system structured like this?
Essentially, and beside the Portal theme, I love the idea of open exposed components.
There’s plenty of cooling, hardly any problem in checking/swapping parts, plenty of way to accommodate extra USB hubs…
Dust could be a slightly worse issue as this would require a weekly schedule of dusting but…
Man I like this idea.
Any glaring issues any of you sees here that I’m missing?
Yes, this was the case with my last build. Did not need it.
Any noise will be a lot more noticeable with the components right in your face.
That is quite true… As a headphones guy the issue for me is probably less serious but still, it is a thing.
It looks great and as long as you don’t have any pets or other sources of hair or dust in your room (carpet?), and the “case” is such that no dust falls in from the top onto the parts…
I think it’s perfect.
I have cats so I always need a dust filter and positive pressure inside my case
Noise and cables. In my hands it would look like that for 5 minutes. Then the mess starts.
I just put my PC in a new case. Very sad to see the old case go, but having the CPU’s radiator just flopping around loose was no way to build a PC. The old box was noisy, unable to keep up with the times but it sure looked interesting.
Old case:
So I replaced my trusty old Antec Nine Hundred with this:
New case:
It is lined on the sides with 10mm of sound proofing foam. It has three fans that are completely inaudible at the lowest settings, and hardly audible at the medium one. At full speed, the sound gets noticeable but still very low. I love how the box just eats the noise my two mechanical hard drives put out and seems to keep the GPU quite happily cool. New box is sligthly larger and about twice as heavy as the old one. It looks kinda boring though, but that’s ok. It’s just a big, quiet computer.
Well, what’s the new model/make? Or are we supposed to guess?
Looks like a be quiet! Silent Base 802. Excellent choice. (I have a be quiet! CPU cooler and one of their fans in my case).
You weren’t but you did!
But will it run DCS? But good on you, mate.
about to find out
… and that’s coming off a…?
