How are the switches working out @BeachAV8R

The kid in me is wanting one for Mario/Zelda.

The kids love them. I hooked one of the docking stations up to the big screen TV and I was amazed at how good FIFA18 looked on the big screen. They really seem to like the games so far, and the digital download store couldn’t be easier to use. Well, I take that back…it COULD be easier to use because I do have to use two different e-mail accounts for each switch…but they can both use the same billing credit card, so that is good.

I have the parental controls set, but I haven’t been watching close enough yet to see how that impacts anything. I think they are mostly playing AI in their games, I don’t know that they have tried any MP games yet. The kids took to the controllers really quickly - those little joy-cons are perfect for small hands.

And I can’t recommend enough these Orzly Glass Screen Protectors (normally $29.99 and on sale for $6.97) They went on super easy…neither of the Switches developed a bubble. Sometimes those screen protector things can be really tough to get right, but these are rigid glass and they go on really nicely.

I’ll be curious if we get to eventually see a Netflix app for the Switch - and I haven’t even been able to get my hands on it to check it out fully.

Nice. Just not sure I want to pull the trigger. The library of games isn’t that big and as you mention no Netflix yet. I’m pretty sure it won’t get MLB.tv which is also a problem as I don’t really need more than one console on the go and I dont have a smart TV. Plus the price of the switch is kinda silly high imo.

Decisions decisions.

Should clarify library comment is re my interests.

Yeah…I’m pretty confident that the library is going to explode. They have sold 10 million units since March.

“The fact that we reached 10 million units sold on a global basis and we’re not fully through the holidays is unprecedented territory for Nintendo,” Reggie Fils-Aime, president and COO of Nintendo America, told CNN Tech. “The pace is one of the fastest in our own history and in gaming history.”

Here is a fairly good list of games coming in 2018. Oh boy…this is gonna hurt my wallet… :frowning:

For the Switch, the Zelda Breath of the Wind and the new Super Mario Odyssey are the two tent-pole must haves. They were probably the best two console releases of last year on any platform. After that, things like Splatoon 2, Mario+Rabbids, and the Zelda DLC will tide you over until the new Yoshi game, Metroid 4 and Kirby arrive. Because, as Chris said, it has sold well, the 3rd parties will jump on like crazy as quick as they can now. With most things Nintendo, the Nintendo games are the things to be bought first.

Ya. I don’t feel like there’s enough there at the moment. I mean I’m missing out on some of those titles but the price is just not there right now. $80 for Zelda and Mario plus $400 for the console…

I definitely want to play those, and who doesn’t love Mario Kart? Kirby and yoshi will also be $80… And they just don’t seem to go on sale. That’s a lot of cash I could be spending on my PC. Or toward my new house.

With that sort of thinking you likely won’t be destitute, lying on the streets looking for warmth, free food or a place to recharge your Nintendo Switch though.

Hmm. So the switch can charge via USB c . Does that also charge the joycon if they’re connected? So you can charge everything on the go? The joycon run on separate power source afaik so not sure how that works.

Is the the joycon grip charger thing useful for on the go or just when playing while docked? Such a weird machine.

Anyway system plus zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, screen protector, Splatoon 2 comes to like 730 pre tax. Lol. I can skip the lawyer on the house purchase/sale right?

Yes, they charge when docked with the main unit. If you have the USB-C plugged into the main unit, and the joycons plugged into that then they all charge. You can even get a separate joycon charging unit, but it’s not really needed - the charge lasts a long time, or you’ll just play handheld with all as a main unit. Don’t forget the graphics run in two ‘modes’, in that you get a nicer graphics when docked and output to HDMI. It’s a weird little hybrid for sure.

Some of them haven’t been on sale much…particularly the high end titles like Zelda. I’ve been keeping an eye on the Reddit Nintendo Switch Deals sub and have caught some good 50% off deals (FIFA18). Of course, some of them were cartridges…I’d rather some of them have been digital downloads.

I skipped school in 1981 as the local arcade had new Lunar Lander units. It’s been like that ever since.

The new Zelda is crack. I’ve finally got the time to sit down and dig into it, and it’s simply excellent.

I’m playing Tiny Metal on the PC but I’ve read that it’s also available for the Switch, it’s Advanced Wars pretty much. Love it

I played the crap out of advance wars when it first came out

I had to play them all. Some mechanics are not perfect but as a game is really adorable.

Yeah, Tiny Metal is not perfect, but it’s a fantastic game so far. Has a campaign about 20 hours long(now 5 hrs in). The skirmish mode is decent although the AI can be tricked into silly actions. Multiplayer is “coming” with no date information unfortunately.

So, two gifts of note. One is a much needed hard case for my DJI Mavik Pro. This one courtesy of my sister in-law. Nanuks are a huge bang for the buck IMO. Hydro cut hard foam in a beautifully constructed waterproof case.

And two, something that I’d been contemplating for a while. Ever ventured a listen at Eddie Vedder’s Ukulele Songs album? Rolling Stone and others gave the second solo effort from the Pearl Jam front man harsh reviews. But having been a amateur guitar player for 20 years, it piqued my curiosity to the point that I gave it more than a casual listen. There are some absolutely beautiful love songs to be discovered here, especially if you don’t regard the tone produced from the gateway instrument akin to feral cats making love in an alleyway.

A mid range offering from Kala, this one is solid mahogany, very much in the style of a Martin. Understated when one compares to those from the motherland, Hawaii. Concert ukes being all of 23” in length, left me unconcerned in choosing a darker sounding wood. This is what you get, your wallet being a mere $220 lighter.

There top and back are nicely bound. So far she has stayed in tune well enough, and has a very playable, if not a low, setup.

Thank you Santa!

I love cases like that.
How’s that Mavik? Got any vids or photos?
