Civil Aviation Ministry of Information thread

What an awful tragedy, really sad. I’m very sorry for the loss of your friend. I was impressed by how safely the ultralight/rotor ops had seemed to be conducted up until that point, and was surprised to hear about the accident. Luckily my son and I left about 0600 Thursday morning and missed all three of the fatal accidents that occurred.

Thank you for that; I cannot stand him. :upside_down_face:

For a very positive Oshkosh ultralight story, I found this inspiring enough to share it with my wife and our 3 girls. They loved it.

I love Guy Ritchies movies!
TIL that he’s bought an airfield…

I’ve heard of him–probably because his name has a catchy ring to it, but I don’t recall seeing the face. I am so out of touch with modern culture! Looks like a beautiful airfield. Good on him for investing in its future as an active GA hub.

How these guys survived will forever be a mystery to me.

Must be one sturdy helicopter…! :astonished:

Here’s the thing. Those two dudes on the roof? That roof is two houses down from where the helicopter impacted.

Wait, someone lived?

I saw footage of the crash and just stopped reading because I was 100% sure that everyone aboard died. That didn’t look survivable to me at all.

Watching the video it looked to me like it was all connected/one building.

But yes, a miracle they survived. That happened quick, really awful.

Could they have been thrown out just before impact…?

Some guys on reddit claimed that they jumped. And hey! It’s reddit so it must be true.

Well that would be a little less mysterious. Reddit wouldn’t like it.

Man, I doubt they had time to even think about anything like that. Fire light>Turning back>tail comes off>crash is about what it looked like to me. Just amazing.

Yes, was a residential area in Pompano (where I used to live). A lot of duplexes/triplexes rentals around there.

1 fatality onboard Flight Paramedic Terryson, a fire captain. 1 fatality on the ground.

The three-member crew was heading to an emergency medical rescue to take the patient to the hospital. A video posted online shows flames coming from the midsection of the helicopter as it is trailed by a long plume of smoke. The helicopter then appears to break in half as it begins to spiral, plunging to the ground. A video from another angle showed that the helicopter’s blades were not turning rapidly.

Tony said that even as the crew members were declaring a mayday to the airport’s control tower and trying to save their helicopter, they were also radioing paramedics at the medical emergency to let them know they would have to take the patient to the hospital.

“We are talking about the character of these men,” Tony said. “As they were fighting for their lives, they were thinking about somebody else.”

Really a very tragic incident.

This one we can laugh at. Twin Otter colliding with a Eurocopter/Airbus of some sort at St. Barts. Nothing hurt but a pilot’s pride (and, hopefully, job).

Huh. Wonder how that could happen.

The helicopter wasn’t exactly stealthy.

That looks expensive…

According to Google translate:

At around 11.42am local time, the plane landed on runway 28 and, according to flight tracking data, successfully touched down on the correct section of the runway. Due to currently unknown problems, the plane then veered left off the runway, onto a grassy area and then onto the apron where it struck the helicopter.
