This is very true.
It’s important to keep this in mind when investigating occurrences and accidents. You weren’t there. Seeing all the options is easy, after the fact.
It’s also more or less impossible to simulate that kind of stress, in any ethical way at least

Guys name is “Hog”? Yep, famous video. There are very many like it of people trying to fly helicopters and meeting unfortunate ends. This one is funny because the guy was unhurt (and has a very odd name).

It’s also funny because it’s life imitating art. Who hasn’t had an identical experience the first time they tried to fly a heli in a sim? I think my first was MSFS 98, and the Jetranger.
I had a flight like that yesterday, when I tried the OH-6 in DCS. It’s always a coin toss as to which control has to be inverted or not 
With that video there was no way he could claim to his insurance company that wind damage or some other natural disaster caused the damage either.
Considering the altitude he achieved at one point he was darn lucky to have not sustained life threatening injuries.

ETA: I think that deep down, every grown man truly believes he could fly “one of those things” if given the chance. He just had the opportunity to take that chance, and be proven wrong.

I am rated in the things as many of you know. I’ve got maybe 80 hours now. And yet I still imagine that I might do the very same thing when I picture myself flying a helicopter while outside of one. For instance now, on my couch, as I contemplate lifting to a hover, the ability to lose control seems obvious, even likely. It’s the darndest thing. Never have I imagined losing control of an airplane. But with helos there’s always a hint of doubt. Once I get light on the skids, all doubt disappears. Still, it’s weird.
I’ve never had a helicopter land on my hotel before!

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted any acro videos. They all look the same so I rarely bother anymore. But this flight was fun. And although I’m not laughing, it was pretty funny. Sometimes I am amazed at what a F***up I can be.
