Zeke’s or Wildcat’s?
Wheels
It goes straight into VR, so me staring at a black screen until the penny dropped (hey, it’s early here).
Binding of controls is a bit funky in VR, so might do it in 2D.
Seems to work. Sat in an aircraft..
Well I flew around a bit and landing on the carrier, so that’s good.
An early look for sure, clickable cockpit, some rough performance (25fps on a 5080 in VR) but obviously lots of tweaking to do. Interesting!
VR screenshot after landing and not binding brakes so just fast n furious spun it out :
EDIT: There is a VR guide already with some advice on what settings to have on/off:
Thank you. I couldn’t find the button. I’m definitely overdue for my vision checkup. ![]()
I had to download it from the Steam Next Fest page, the game page didn’t show download button for me.
I wish I could show this video to myself at 14 playing MicroProse’s 1942: The Pacific Air War

Sorry to be a Negative Nelson, but the demo is no bueno for me. It is laggy and I am constantly chasing the mouse to find click spots. I got into the cockpit but my extremely low fps and lag made it unplayable. I may still get it on release but tbh, my eyes are on IL-2 Korea.
Anyway, to those who are having success with the demo, enjoy the flying.
I tried it yesterday and was pleased to be in VR as soon as I started the flight. They are rather brave releasing it as a demo in this early state in my opinion as it was hard going for me. I felt a bit sick due to the very low fps, even on low settings. I think it has some way to go but good on them. I will watch their progress with interest.
20 years or so since my last flight in a Zero.
It’s like riding a bicycle ![]()
Seriously. Landing on the CV is pretty easy. Ground handling on the carrier not so much…
Still quite bare bones and obviously an alpha / tech demo. But it’s nice to try out something new.
I just downloaded it and had to go to work. I cant wait to get home and fiddle with it.
I really like how the controls are setup on this GUI. This is so well thought out. I hope it plays on my system…
Well, I had my go at it. Seems ok. Got about 30-50fps. After I managed to program the controls I was able to put both on the deck. Seems to need a bit of polish. No real damage model I see. However, the models are beautiful. The Zero is amazingly modeled. The Wildcat is too, its just there is a lot more to see inside the zero. The flight models are not easy. The takeoff and landing seems nicely modeled. I will be keeping my eye on it. It has promise.
Indeed looks very interesting. I’m hoping VR and clicky-pits is in the works.
What’s with the recent trend of time-limited demos though? I remember in the good old days demos were permanent and didn’t disappear after a few days.
I cant say i will miss it. The VR performance is lacking. The content was ver limited. Its still in development…LETS SEE
This seems to be a trend. Not sure what to think. I’ll miss Jason though.
I’m sure it is possible to make a great flightsim without Jason onboard, but having him there was sort of my assurance that it would happen. Reading that he quit due to irreconcilable differences does not bode well for the quality of Combat Pilot. I hope I am wrong.
Jason is in my opinion one of the most genuine and down to earth people in our niche hobby,I wish Him nothing but the best and hope he lands in a better happier place.
