Combat Pilot or Jason Williams rides again..!

Disturbing news. sigh
Jason’s Vision has been what kept me interested in several sim projects over the years. Imo, his leaving those projects has not seemed to have been for the better for those projects and their Visions of those projects in the long run. Only time will tell if this time it will be different??

I have a tiny bit of experience with Jason. By which I mean that we’ve talked off and on since his tight involvement with Rise of Flight. Most recently we talked about Japan and maybe getting my wife’s help with any old documentation. I think of him as a friend. But he may struggle to remember what context he’s heard the words “Smokin’ Hole”. So obviously we are not close and the “friend” title may be one-sided. That said, Jason in my experience is prickly and slightly stubborn. In no way extreme in either instance but once experienced it isn’t forgotten. I imagine that he can be a good and dedicated business partner. He clearly loves combat aviation history and the combat sim genre. And he is driven. But differences that perhaps a more malleable person could absorb, Jason is likelier to find irreconcilable. If he comes here to tell me that I am FOS, then I accept that I have misread between the lines. But that is my observation. I say this to really say that I don’t think this is the end of Combat Pilot nor even a sign that it is in trouble. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn’t. But Jason’s departure is not necessarily a harbinger of anything. That’s my hope anyway. I wish him well. He’s a good guy and he’s touched my life through this hobby about as much as any other creative.

I hear you, @smokinhole and I just want to add my thoughts on that…

If I were to make a flightsim, I’d listen very carefully to what Jason had to say about it. I kind of wanted what he wanted, in a Pacific Combat Flightsim. If he can’t sign off on the product, what are the chances I will like it?

That said, I agree that this isn’t necessarily the end of Combat Pilot.

At this stage, we simply don’t know how this will turn out in the end and that’s true for any flightsim in development, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Sad news indeed.

I was ready to take my wallet out as soon as pre-order was available (even though the Steam demo did not cut it for me). That was pretty much becsuse Jason was behind the driving wheel.

Now I do not think I’d do it.

Anyway… the real question is: What is his next project?

This is pretty sad, can’t help wonder what happened.

As to his next project, “my usefulness to this project and the flight-sim genre has now expired” does not bode well (at least for us flight sim fans).

I got the same vibes from his statement. It will definitely be quite sad if this is his last hurrah in the flight sim genre.
