Bladerunner-ish eyegasm.

I am falling into the same category, @B12 albeit almost one generation younger.

I am hesitating over this one. It sure looks very pretty and I have got the hardware to run it pretty but… just… dunno.

Have you tried Kingdom Come Deliverance if you like medieval times? It can be had for some 15 gold during a Steam sale. It sits on my HDD waiting…

I guess that means there’s hope for me yet. Still haven’t replaced my old 970.

Doesn’t matter anyway, ain’t got the time right now. Need to prepare a presentation for Monday and then i need to go over the comments re my thesis draft. No rest for the wicked.

I’m playing it on 970 with medium/high setings at 1080p. Looks and runs just fine. Only played few hours though as I have to work this weekend…

You really should consider talking to Jackie

The thing with RTX rendering is that if you don’t know what to watch for you will not notice much difference. You can make traditionally rasterized graphics look almost just as good as RTX with proper artist input. RTX means less work for level designers who would have to set up the tricks to try to make reflections line up with the world (depending on what technique they are using), use some lighting techniques to make the scene believable etc. With fully enabled RTX (which still is not used in games AFAIK) you only set up the scene and add light sources. All the lighting/reflections calculations are made on the fly wih no pre-baked shadow maps, ambient occlusion etc.

Computational power for real RTX rendering is really high. But I guess when the hardware catch up with it it will be way to go. Next step would be path tracing. Though this approach to rendering is not really optimized method it presents basically realistic image (it works like in real life with how we percieve world - photons bouncing off of surfaces and hitting our retina, though with limited sampling).

Still rasterized graphics can still look very convincing and is much less demanding on hardware. When I look back in retrospect, still the visual leap (from non RTX to RTX) is smaller than going from software mode rendering to accelerated back in mid 90’s (when 3dfx showed up with all the filtered textures, volumetric fog and 16/24/32 bit color palette). But I guess the more closer you get to real life image the leaps are less noticeable…

The RTX stuff is nice enough, and because this title has a lot of neon in a place literally called ‘Night City’ it is noticeable when off. Very much a luxury thing though, and the game is still the game with it off.

The biggest proprietary difference on the RTX cards for this game is really the use (almost reliance) on DLSS. That allows for engine rendering at 1080p but then upscaling and aliasing in a way that is very similar to just rendering at plain 4K. It’s like getting a ‘4X’ benefit for your graphics card, and is borderline magic as it’s ‘free’.

It would be great to think that flight sims and/or VR titles start to use DLSS 2.1 in the future, but they tend to be weird and don’t put an emphasis on performance. Nice to dream though.

Gameplay -wise I’m only an hour or two in, but it’s a first person adventure/action title. You do missions, you get to free roam, drive around. There’s a big plot to follow, you can solve things using violence (of course) or do hacking or stealth. You can tell it’s from the Witcher series people (penis size choices etc), as it feels like a sprawling adventure. I don’t personally love the setting, but it looks really pretty and is growing on me.

@B12 I have just started red dead redemption 2, an open world wild west. It has a story but its possible to just go hiking in the mountains, hunting or fishing and avoiding other people. Or go Rob a train it’s beautiful especially in 21:9

Managed to squeeze in the prologue before heading to bed yesterday, after reading about all the issues, i was positively surprised. Looks nice and runs quite smooth.

Just finished act 1; amazing stuff. Already made some pretty bad choices that cost me. What amazes me too is that it’s quite obviously the same engine as the Witcher 3 has, but on par with an fps engine like unreal. Most critics compare it to gta or some shooter, but the longer you play the more obvious it becomes that the shooting part is not really so important vs leveling up and tackle problems with brainpower. 9+ for me so far, and only 5 hours in.

Dang it! Now ANOTHER game I have to buy LOL!

Unbelievable how they had 8 million PRE-ORDERS! That’s like $640 million Canadian!!!

It is a really fun game, interesting world and well written. I’ve been sucked in completely.

My videogame backlog is so enormous. I mean…I haven’t played Half Life 2…! Or Fallout 4…or any of the Borderlands titles. Or GTA 3 4 o4 5…This one sounds really cool though.

Anyone worried about performance, it runs at 60fps in 4k ultra with DLSS on. This is with a 2080 super. I also think casting Keanu as Johnny Silverhand was a perfect choice. Really makes the character and the story that much better.

FYI if you didnt know already, probably the most NSFW game I’ve played, ever. I avoided one of the biggest “bugs” by electing not to choose a penis or ■■■■■■. That way it doesn’t randomly clip through your clothes on the inventory screen.

This raises a separate discussion, and its really a personal decision, but what do you consider too much? Hide your kids, hide your wife, the sexual content is EVERYWHERE. Like not just the nudity. Toys, acts, noises, etc. I guess I’m just getting old, but is it really necessary? Like will the swing of my junk affect the storyline? Will my ken doll be at a disadvantage? I guess its a weird double standard, but Ive never had a problem with violence in video games, but sexual stuff in games has always seemed strange to me.

The debauchery is kind of a central aspect of the society in the game, I guess.

Edit: Also, and i don’t mean this in a judgmental way, but probably the biggest Elephant in the room is that not all parts of the world have moral concepts so heavily coined by Protestantism as is the case for the US (though ironically, Poland, where the game was made, comes pretty close).

Action Man or GI Joe if your american never had “mens bits” and they rocked

I like all the sexy in the game. It makes sense to me. I also like how effortlessly post-normative and post-racial it is. It’s not about male butts or female butts or brown butts or white butts. It’s just all butts all of the time for everyone!
