CyberPunk 2077

On the one hand I envy you - playing Half Life 2 for the first time was amazing, on the other it was tech novelty back when I played it, now it could be considered retro.

I’ve only finished the Prologue today, it took me 10+ hours, I wasn’t in a hurry, completed plenty of side gigs. The plot is really good so far. The game also runs not bad on my aging specs (GTX970) - wih Medium preset at 1080p I got 35FPS (night, city, rainy) to over 50FPS in less demanding areas. OG PS4 and XBOX ONE has very poor performance (with FPS dipping below 20 in dense urban area) and CDPR are refunding the game with no questions asked on those systems.

I can’t recommend highly enough Half-Life: Alyx for the best ‘proper’ VR experience. If you’ve got a headset and not played it then you’re missing out I think. One of the few VR games to feel properly fleshed out. Valve are really good, it’s just they are really really slow.

Been accepted for the rigorosum end of January, so now I can finish the last polish of my thesis with much less time pressure. Which also means I get to play a little CP here and there. :smirk:

I was a bit worried about this game, as the Prologue, especially the Maelstrom mission gave me severe visual overload. That level was just stuffed with so much …stuff, that I couldn’t quite process it. Now that I’ve gotten through the entire prologue and i’m more used to the combat system, i gotta say I’m impressed. It really grows on you. If the story keeps delivering, I can see myself replaying this several times (which i normally loathe).

This reminds me of the game I recently encountered on Steam called succubus. Even though I use steam a lot, somehow I had failed to recognize that they were now selling sexually explicit games. I considered trying the demo since it looked kind of like a AAA and XXX version of Doom, but somehow I never got around to trying it.

It did make me wonder though when the company had switched to selling those types of things, and if the money they were making was enough to counterbalance the controversy that would undoubtedly be attached to them.

I’ve got rid of a lot of the sexual content by going into the settings and blocking games with the tag "anime’ it won’t block games like cyberpunk which are games which happen to contain sexual content as part of a wider experience but it does block 99 percent of the full on “sex games” which I really don’t want my kids stumbling across.

I love steam. I’ve been a member do over a decade and have spent thousands of pounds on there. But this is one thing I really do not like. I use Epic and gog and x box live and have no problem letting my 4 Yr old browse for games but I do not let him near steam anymore.
Which is a genuine shame. But I absolutely do not agree with that sort of content being seen on a store used by children.
It’s even caught me out a couple of times where I’ve clicked on an interesting sounding game and the whole thing is just porn. It’s not fair to the kids

Thanks to my brother I could finally try this game, especially post patch 1.2
Or something…
Anyways- I started two different characters (Street Kid and Nomad) and it was quite interesting.

In both cases I played for about two hours.

Give that my rig has just a simple 980Ti I wasn’t sure how much I could push the graphics BUT it turns out that outside of the RTX (which are obviously not supported by the hardware) I could push all to 100% and still have wonderful performances!

Honestly I’m absolutely impressed by the engine.

The voice acting is great, the sound engineering is awesome and the soundtrack exactly what I could expect.

I also consider the User Interface absolutely refined, smooth to use and capable. I truly truly like it.

Except…

At the end of two hours of gameplay I could see how things were slowly eroding away.
Like my sanity was falling a part, piece by piece, small things started to fail in the game.
The small things became bigger and more noticeable until I met one big game breaking bug.

And that my friends broke my heart- if done well, or if they manage to fix this, this could be still one of the greatest RPGs of our time.
Yes, I understand the intrinsic question about the style, I was born before the 80s and this esthetic just speaks to my soul.
It might not be everyone’s taste but sure as hell it’s definitely mine.

In this state though… I can’t do anything else but put it aside until they fix it more.
If they can manage that.

Such a hell of a shame…

I can really imagine it- it is a stunningly crafted product.
I wish I knew what breaks it for me…

I want to play it but every time I see her playing I lose interest. The car driving physics are awful. The gunplay is cool. But there is just something about it that I can’t get excited about

Well, I don’t do driving for a job- not cars at least :smirk: - but when I started as Nomad I did so exactly with a car-smuggling mission.
I drove the car with my Xb360 joypad and I found it better than the driving sessions of GTA IV and V.
So, that’s that.

Have you already tried it?

I played it thru once, took about 100 hours. Lived every minute of it. Yes it manages to look fine on older hardware, my 1070 is pretty much alike a 980ti.

Played a streetkid lady blades specialist. Steppin’ razor girl. Had a whale of a time. Perfect cyberpunk. Hardly met any glitches or bugs. Guess I got lucky.

Iinte d to play again when and if I ever get an RTX card. I would advise you find, chase and sink your bug Paolo. Its worth it.

Btw did anyone put it through the vorpX magic? It must be a whole new experience in VR.

I don’t have it…but I also haven’t had a bunch of time to tinker with vorpX lately. Probably a winter-times sport…

Yes. Reinstalling now

I’ve played through about half the main story, about 80 hours in (I focussed on side quests to get fancy new cars etc). I’m playing a Nomad stealth hacker. Loved it from the start and haven’t seen many bugs. The RTX is excellent and really stands out in the rain / at night.

However, I seem to get stuck at one point in the main campaign a couple of month’s ago and basically haven’t gone back to it. Every time I try to pick it up again I make the same mistake and end up putting it down.

What did you guys think of the Phantom Liberty DLC? I thought it was an outstanding addition to the main storyline. It was also great getting to see a virtual Idris Elba.

My wife absolutely loved it. She’s played it 3 times through
