DCS 2.5 Update Thread (2020)

An emotional rollercoaster if I’ve ever seen one.
 Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

Yeah. That was like 2020 in a blog post. Up and down. With no middle ground

I thought this was already more or less confirmed as being the next Ugra map?

Can’t imagine Heatblur being very pleased about that…

Fingers crossed that Heatblur picks this up.

Bummed :pensive:

So the trailer was possibly a lie?

About the ordnance I figure ED will allow third parties to audit them in to get “checked” and eventually converted or aligned/adjusted.

The line say “Taken away” not erased.
So I guess it simply allows ED to have control over equality of performance as to avoid OP weapons.

Since DCS is grounded in reality then if a weapon is OP IRL it also should be in DCS. It’s not War Thunder, and even there there was some bias IIRC (or was it some other flight sim?).

Not what I’m saying- and so far we were lucky that all third parties behaved correctly.
I did see that as a future problem.

What if a third party made a module with AMRAAM that overperformed? Then ED removed them?
And all people were like “I PAID GOOD MONEY FOR THAT! GIVE IT BACK!”

I think the potential for damage is much higher than anything else.
This was something I actually thought was already in place.
No hate from me.

I think maybe what @komemiute meant (correct if im wrong bud) is that ED can check the performance against their own known data rather than relying on 3rd party data. That way they can be consistent across all platforms. Regardless of module designer

I think DCS is for other type of crowd, not some pay-to-win MP junkies.

Also if a weapon is already in DCS inventory it shouldn’t be remade again by 3rd party dev.

@damson

I see what you’re saying BUT the J17 Thunder came with its own suit of weapons.

It irked me to see that- as a Real Life Mil Sim DB developer.

Version control and data correctness are paramount in a sim like DCS.
If subsequent “tweaks” brought just ever so slightly more powerful bombs or slightly more precise missiles and so on- the potential for an explosive reaction from the player base could be devastating.

I see no problem in ED doing this- besides they already said there’ll be no “leveling” of weapon capacity for balancing purposes so… what’s the big deal?
Third parties can develop weapons but for release they have to go through ED.

And a little PS:

Maybe- but there’s A LOT of MP junkies and I’m quite sure some are quite vocal about weapon performance…

EDIT: I do not infer anything about the developers of the J17, it was simply an example of the first third party I knew brought out some very specific weapons for their module.

I’m not against that idea, in fact I think it’s good that there will be sole curator of weapons stats. The only issue I see with this is how “taken away” is suppose to work. Let’s say Heatblur spend months developing a range of different versions of Phoenix missiles and now ED takes the code? I know no other aircraft were the carriers of that missile (at least en masse) but if some other aircraft would use that common weapon already developed by a 3rd party dev will it be free to use and implement in new module? Will the initial developer get some compensation for this? I guess it’s internal matter, but a hurdle to tackle nonetheless.

Edit: Or maybe ED will rewrite all externally developed weapons themselves?

Unlikely- it’s a bit of a tech debt. No, I think they’ll audit all the third parties ordnance and perform “version control” so to speak- not the right term, but it fits enough.

Mostly the problem can be if a third party module has some very specific ordnance- and ED has no time to develop the weapon? Will the module be forcibly delayed? Will ED accept a third party ordnance and just “version control” it?

I guess we’ll never know- I just think it’s a good idea too and I hope for the best.

Anywho… I’m most siked about this. Hope it wont melt my soon-to-be-potato PC. Upgrade will have to come soon.

Wasn’t The Me 262 part of The “Ill Fated, Luther.WWII KickStarter” Campaign?

That is for me the key and that is what is required at the end of the day consistency…and have them all match up to a simplistic ECM and countermeasures model.

I think it was and thought they were doing it…will have to look back.

edit:
It was under planned 6 years ago guess that is now not the case.

I think what they’re trying to say with that is that they’re not working on it right now. Hopefully it’ll remain part of the plan.

Curious wording there, “Bombs and Rockets” Not Bombs, Missiles, and Rockets.

Makes me wonder if ED already controls missiles.

Could also be a way for ED to protect against lawsuits etc… Munition performance is highly classified.
