Oh you guys are killing me!!! I’m getting horrible download speeds…After 4hrs I got 3/4 the wat through…decided to cancel and try and catch another wave…Big Mistake…Maybe by Friday I’ll be up and running?
Aww i feel for you bro. Its well worth the wait. Its like a new game.
My download speed was very erratic, ranging from 20Kb to 5Mb.
Hang in there, like Schurem said it’s well worth it!
I’m so glad I was able to jump on it ASAP.
I got excellent speeds and had it done in like… 15 minutes? It was crazy fast.
Thanks Guy’s…gonna try resetting Wifi/Connections
really happy for the result!
the lighting with the clouds is awesome!
the new propellers too!
had 2 crash at the beginning and after that it seemed stable…
also sow had 2 crashes…
i saw a mask in the vr desktop mirror so i think they are using some of the vr mod tricks…
Quick Question?? Do 2.56 missions work with cloud pre-sets? If not I’m might aswell scrape um!!
From what I can tell all the legacy missions have their clouds set to none, so some tweaking is needed
This probably deserves its own topic, but Combined Arms and driving seems to work fine in VR now.
There is a bunch of issues with tank sight masks etc but if you just want to scoot around it’s great fun in VR.
Fancy cloud presets…
This such a nice surprise to see ED finally adressing this.
It also seems to me that they’ve updated the water rendering:
SO many goodies packed in one single update
I don’t have enough superlatives to describe this update . Absolutely stellar experience in the Rift S , and a performance boost as well !
With the default config, it didn’t look so good with my G2. Jaggies galore to a point of making it look like the CV1 screen door effect. Leaving it toggled off until a better config comes along hint hint.
So, in 2D the cloud presets on Ultra look great. In VR… not so much. They look fuzzy/out of focus. Am I the only one who sees this? Reverb G2
After a warm honeymoon with some sort of update corruption of my saved games folder, and some time to reflect, I can say the update brings a lot of great visual goodies. Mostly next level, game-changing stuff. The price to pay right now is that there is a lot that is slightly broken. I can’t for le love of god do a shift+r and not crash, for instance…
Clouds look great on 2D. For the most part. But in some situations (AAR instant action in the gulf, for instance) the shimmering and clouds dancing are very visible. Distant clouds shimmer like crazy, while very scattered clouds dance a lot (probably because you can see them more clearly against the ground). In VR is probably worse than 2D, but, they are there. Good to know they are known issues being addressed. Also, there are lots of minor bugs as expected. Let’s enjoy this release for what it is, as this is clearly an “open beta” kind of feel. I hope they work on it fast so they can finally bring 2.7 to stable, or at least give it some polish. As much as I still think this is better than the 2.5.6 release, it still has a few rough edges.
I’m also a little bummed out that the viper got so little love. I mean, fine, I get it, finish the damn hornet first, but why advertise NEW FEATURES FOR THE HORNET AND VIPER for two months to bring 70 features to the hornet and just two new harm modes and a wonky TGP? I mean they are clearly not on the same level, why use them in the same sentence? Can’t they talk to us like adults?
So in summary, not the silver bullet as advertised, but truly a great step forward for the sim. Right now we will make do with what we have, and have some good fun with those early clouds, but we should definitely not settle for this.
(on a side note, have you tried blowing stuff up? New fire and smoke effects are dope!)
Le sigh. Downloaded overnight. At work now…at home…on my DCS rig…
So far I’m very pleased. At first I thought they’d broken my beloved Viggen, as I was unable to taxi in two of the free flight missions (Caucus and Syria). But then I was able to in the PG free flight, so go figure.
The Viggen definitely got some love this update. Looks amazing, and the cockpit and lighting is great. The new clouds are wonderful, and no performance loss noted. Well done ED!
Oh dear. In Dutch we have an expression: de kat op het spek binden. To tie the cat to the meat. Asking for problems and/or inviting temptation willfully.
Good luck and stay strong bro!
Yeah, I missed that point too…
I had DCS crash on me once, when loading a Spitfire instant action mission. Haven’t had DCS crash in many months. Is the auto crash log report new?
Anyway, the new propeller model looks good. At least in the Spit, which is the only one Ive tried so far. I liked the old model too. I don’t think there’s a huge difference. Maybe when looking at the propeller disc from the side? I could not see any propeller generated reprojection artifacts, in VR, apart from at very low idling RPM.
The new clouds are a game changer! As mentioned, they cast quite a shadow. Maybe I should try and increase the gamma a bit?
My favourite module, the Viggen, got quite an overhaul too! Must set some time aside to test everything out.
Pat on the back, ED et al. You did good!
That they did. Schwack! Out of the park!
