There is, plus on the Steam side too (which you can transfer to stand-alone as well).

On over the weekend on the Steam side.

I finished Epsom 2 days ago. The last mission was with 2.7 glory. You’ll love it…and hate AAA!

(Sigh) I hate me ! 2.7 was running all silky-sexy , and I am a big believer in “if it ain’t broke , don’t fix it” .

So why , oh why , did I permit that Windows update ?
BAD , Smokey ! Bad ! Bad !

DCS looked like a kinetoscope , and my virtual pilot’s throttle hand looked like he was having a seizure . Unfortunately , that hand follows the throttle .

And why , oh why , did that system restore point i made just yesterday not “take” , why did Microsoft decide i needed Nvidea Display , even though i’m running AMD , why did they make booting in “safe” mode more difficult , why did it take 2 trips to uninstall (most) of the update , and why couldn’t they leave my usb power settings alone ? To say nothing of turning back on my telemetry ? Why , why , why !?

3 hours later , i’m back to 95% of what it was .

I hate me , but i hate Windows more ! Needless to say , updates are turned back to "“when hell freezes over” !

My computer has been unplugged for over a week as I’ve been traveling for work.
I’m afraid once I turn it back on, that dreaded Windows update will auto-start.
Does anyone know how I can quickly prevent it from installing? They’ve purposely made it difficult.

The first way here is prolly the fastest .

Oh no. I’m afraid to turn it off now. When did this drop, roughly? I got one a few days ago and so far, fingers crossed, no issues. Been on all afternoon today. Ugh.

Oddly enough I never have much trouble with Windows update. I even took my work PC to the insider preview of the upcoming 21H1 update.

If you have Win10 Home, disabling updates requires some “hack and slashing” as it’s designed not to be tampered with by the user.

Windows 10 professional gives good leeway however, the Local Group Policy editor is probably the easiest as you can just set a deferral period of something like 30-90 days.

Think you’re ok .

This is the first that gave me trouble , but it was a doozy ! I have always run Pro for the control it gives , and don’t update often . I just disable updates altogether .
With DCS in VR , i don’t need the headaches updates can bring . Also , MS likes to change your Windows settings with updates , and i don’t need spyware , bloatware , ads , store updates , controller , system setting changes , etc , etc .
I have since read that it is the security , not the feature update this time that caused all the problems .
I use my pc exclusively for DCS .

Windows 10 updates been good for me since Win 10 came out - always auto install…had issues with NVIDIA drivers but nothing to write about. The 2.7 update was giving me loads of CTDs and not seen that before…but todays DCS patch has made things more stable again.

Probably this one:

“If you are seeing lower performance in games, check if rolling back Windows 10 Update KB5000842 solves the issue,” Nvidia stated in a forum post.

It’s like we actively hate new members with these dump threads

It started happening after going on 3 dedicated servers last WE…all 3 of them crashed for everybody including one where all the objects got stuck in midair. I just stopped playing and waited for the next DCS update to come out.

Sorry, I meant @Svsmokey’s windows woes. The DCS crash sounds like that ‘AI on runway’ crash that I think was fixed in the latest hotfix.

The dreaded -842 is on my system, but it’s not in the ‘uninstall updates’ window pictured on the right. I’m SOL then?

Messing with existing settings really makes me want to break out my soldering iron and a pair of rusty pliers and go to town on that frickin MS product manager’s gonads that thought this was a good idea. I wanna see the EU take MS to court over that ■■■■. They can’t, because MS will probably threaten to increase the licensing costs for the EU itself. Did i mention that we have fricking imbeciles making those tech decisions? /broken record

No , try the recovery option in the left-hand menu on the initial updates screen .
