DCS 2.7 Discussion

Weekend News

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,

This week we announced Open Beta 2.7.3 with powerful, new, under-the-hood features that enhance our unprecedented flying experience. DCS: Marianas provides an immersive, more natural environment that introduces our latest graphical technologies to render crisper details at low level flight. The beautiful islands of Rota, Tinian, Guam and Saipan are amazing to explore, and they are packed with unique, high quality assets throughout. You should not be surprised to learn that this map requires higher performing PCs to get the most detail.

After the launch of DCS: Mi-24P Hind, our dedicated Hind team has been working to eliminate recurring crashes, as well as stabilising the first iteration of the Petrovich AI. Various bugs have been fixed, and we encourage you to read the full changelog. The Hind’s external damage model is now on par with DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight, and work has begun to improve tail rotor damage. The ammo counters for cannon and gun pods are now fully functional, and the Petrovich AI is able to determine ATGM launch distances. Next, we will be working on Petrovich’s ability to scan the environment and report targets and threats.

Please note that for a limited time, up to 50% discount is available on all of our products, including campaigns.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics Team

Petrovich will now be responsible for countermeasures and will automatically select new ones when required. We are now working on giving “him” an interface for the ASO-2V panel.

We have also added a delay in response from the Petrovich interface. This delay emulates the time between commands being given and heard over the crew intercom. Work on the Petrovich voice overs also continues apace.

Hero5.png

Petrovich will now inform you when reaching your desired course, altitude, or speed, and “he” will confirm RoE orders for ATGM launches. Although Petrovich has errors in determining distance to target, for now “he” will dynamically range +/- 300 meters. In later updates we will improve the error modeling by taking into account all the factors that play a role in building this error.

In the latest patch, we’ve added the implementation of the ammo counter panel. KMGU-2 fixes have been made and we have resolved engine control desync issues.

Looking ahead, our priorities are on Petrovich AI upgrades (including flying skills), further resolving de-sync issues in multiplayer, enhancing ATGM sight picture in VR and 2D, and improving overall key binding logic. We are also actively working on known issues and new-found bugs. Thank you for your reporting.

Spent a bit today buzzing around the Marianas in the Huey, I love it. My performance in 2D with high settings is great, it seems to be just VR that struggles.

I wonder what that’s all about…

Flew on marianas for the first time with @Scoop op.
Managed to be a big boy and set up my own server which was cool. Not as much of a pain as I imagined it to be.
Frame rates in 2d with Track IR varied wildly. From down to 10 in places to nearly 40 in others.
This pretty much confirms to my feeling that Syria is going to be pretty useless on my current system.
A very pretty map though. I’m extremely impressed with the level of detail. Watching @Scoop flying his huey around like a grizzled Vietnam vet was something to behold as well, especially when I wrote off 3 hinds (one from controlled flight into the sea ) a good evening all round. I’m going to try and devote at LEAST 2 hours a week to DCS from now on as my skill bleed between sessions is borderline ridiculous now. Its getting harder and harder to keep up with everyone now and it’s getting depressing.
I think if maybe 1 hour for fixed wing and and hour for rotary (hind, let’s be honest) should help a lot. It was quite embarrassing wobbling around the sky last night. But we had fun.

You calling me grizzled?

With experience and skill comes a slight grizzliness

I’m about 74 percent sure that isn’t a word

Grizzled is a passive form. Being grizzled by grisly things. One encounters a grisly bear, which begrizzles you, leaving you a grizzled bear-watcher.

Yes, @Scoop most certainly is grizzled.

Websters lists Grizzled as an adjective.
They should include a pic of @Scoop

@Victork2, u fix?

I think it’s a round-about way of saying this…

And the tech demo’d therein is free

From my experience, the framerates in the Marianas average 60-70% of what I get on Syria. The Marianas, currently, are way more taxing on my 1080ti machine than Syria. ( although I could run it better but I got spoiled by the MSAAx4) I’m running 1440p widescreen.

It suffers in VR with a 3090 but you can see all over the map, badly optimized lods and textures.
I reckon it will get similar treatment to Normandy as this was an FPS killer when it first released.
It’s still gorgeous though

You’d hope so right, Early Access and all that, right?

Gosh, I keep getting the impression MSFS2020 is behind this somehow. Competition is good, maybe?

The lighting thing is nice. Maybe they’re prepping for more market share in the ground-pounding genre? The rest is really good for airborne sight-seeing. Sure is pretty.

I had an omission in this post (related to the enhanced detail) – I didn’t provide a possible solution. My bad:

Give me more control – let me turn OFF “enhancements” that can impact the performance relating to the Combat side of this Air Combat simulation. Keep me, and those like me, on a budget, in the Game longer – and buying ‘modules’.

You can still have the “best looking” Flight sim by clicking a button. There’s too much unnecessary geometry in there it seems (the base object that all the attractive lighting and texturing get applied to).

I’m reminded of those who won’t do VR and/or turn off everything to be competitive because of performance, especially in racing sims – cuz a lot of details don’t matter in that context.

Still the best feeling flight sim, with some of the best systems modeling available. It could be so much more.

9 July 2021

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, :pilotfly:

We hope that you are all enjoying our new, free DCS: Marianas and are exploring the islands. Optimisation for both 2D and VR is ongoing, and we hope to have some performance enhancements soon. Thank you all for your constructive feedback and bug reports.

Please note that the scheduled maintenance of our primary server, website, Module Manager, and Multiplayer services is planned for the 13th of July at 04:00 UTC for a six hour period. We apologise for any inconvenience.

DCS: Mosquito FB Mk.VI is progressing well. The cockpit is near final; we are adding details to instrumentation colour, reflections, and colour balance. Work on the radio transmitter T1154.B and receiver R1155 devices, as well as radio communications for VoiceChat, is also approaching completion. The external model is almost finished, and texturing is near completion. To keep you informed on the development process, we have taken the opportunity to prepare some In Development screenshots for you.

The Summer Sale is in its last days; don’t miss out on these great savings! Most modules and campaigns are up to 50% off. Act now, this offer ends Monday at 15:00 GMT.

Thank you for your passion and support.

We have improved gauge visibility by refining the center and side panel colour gamma values. The same pre-calculated ray tracing technology used in DCS: Mi-24P Hind has also been added. Glass, plastic covers, luminescent dials, and exposed wiring provide a more realistic look and feel.

We are also working on final improvements to the external model, and we will be sharing progress with you soon. We are excited to see the finish approaching, and look forward to seeing this iconic fighter bomber in DCS World.

P-47D Thunderbolt

Promotion

Hero3.png

DCS: P-47D Thunderbolt is now running on EDGE 2.7. This means that you will notice more detailed and enhanced textures throughout the cockpit and external model.

With its Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engines and heavy armament, the Jug can more than hold its own with the more recent and lighter P-51D Mustang, whilst withstanding more combat damage. Fully loaded, this extraordinary fighter is capable of carrying almost half the payload of a B-17 Flying Fortress. In the ground attack role, it can carry 1.3 tonnes of external ordinance, with a maximum take-off weight of nearly 8 tonnes.

Don’t forget to take advantage of the 30% special on DCS: P-47D Thunderbolt, which also ends next week.
