I think you’re looking at artistic license there. It’s easy to turn traffic off in the mission editor, and on this map, more realistic
Just flew the viper and the hog for a bit, and boy howdy did they fix the FLIR! I’m a happy puppy with that For some reason after two drops, the other two GBU-12s refused to come off my viper. Weird. The hog was just marvellous. Took the winter medium instant action, and picking out the targets was a breeze.
I love how the viper moves now. Exactly how I remember it from my Falcon 4.0 days.
Wish there was an affordable [to me] Viper-like stick. From my grand total of 30 minutes flying a real one (back seat of course, nothing beyond a couple 3-G turns & formation stuff) my every-lasting impression was how…hmmm…can’t think of a word… I got to the point where I understood what my ‘driver’ meant when he said you just “think what you want to do and it does it” - the stick only moved like an 1/8th of an inch, or something like that. I read it didn’t move at all initially but pilots wanted some movement there. I literally just added a teensy bit of pressure to make it move. In my un-educated opinion it was easier to fly than my bud’s Beech Skipper!
Yeah, it feels weird to fly it with a long centermounted stick. On the other hand, flying other machines with a force sensing sidestick probably feels even weirder. I love the viper and I do have some play money, but I don’t think I’m yet at the point where I’d get dedicated controls for one machine
I’m hip. The G940 (a recent Google actually found some for sale) was kinda close but mine didn’t hold up very long. And if I recall it had bit of ‘slop’ in it: you’d move it a tiny bit and nothing, then it would finally react. I don’t recommend it. And I may be thinking of the wrong unit. It was a long time ago.
I [finally] got a crowbar out and opened my wallet for a MFG Crosswinds V3 set of rudder pedals. The CH ones have, after 20+ years, finally annoyed me enough to show them the door. Oh, and VR count-weight (think @Troll recommend this unit).
I had a short hop in the Viper yesterday, what hit me most apart from the roll rate was performance at altitude with bags. Subjectively she has a much easier time getting to 30k when loaded and cruises a fair bit faster on mil power.
Man everyone’s raving about the Viper now…just after I swapped out my Warthog stick for the Hornet stick to better fit with the Hornet/Harrier/Tomcat oof.
Hornet, Harrier and Tomcat still are forking awesome machines
There’s something about the harrier, how it moves in the air, how the engine responds, the view from the office that just sits so right for me. I wish there were some @Baltic_Dragon campaigns for it … (hint hint!)
I love my Crosswinds. Heavy duty and well made. Just solid.
My old Saitek/Logi Combat Pedals had one of the spring clips snap (plastic!) so it wouldn’t recenter the left pedal anymore, so it was perfect timing as I’d been eyeing the Crosswinds already.
Had some time to actually fly a proper mission today. Finally she operates in pitch rate command in landing gains, not that weird behavior they had before where the FPM constantly wants to drop down even while speed is constant. Now the FPM stays where you plant it. What feels extremely weird is how unstable she is in beta when rolling in landing gains. I can’t even tell if that is the way it’s supposed to be, but with how sensitive the roll axis is now, she gets into pretty wild beta oscillations when rolling at approach speed.
