I would also call it lack of detail. in my book doesnt matter if it is GB’s worth of downloaded offline mesh, ortho, etc. or it is GB’s worth of online data which needs to be downloaded while playing.
the result is almost the same. I say almost because MSFS ortho is color corrected and what not.
so I agree with the first part, but imo it isnt in ‘glorious detail’.
what I would compare here is the same tech. so my wording would be as follows :
online tech :
MSFS stock world is of much higher quality than FlyInside Simulator (both features streamed ortho).
offline tech :
XPlane stock world is of much higher quality than FSX/P3D (both features offline whole world scenery).
The World Map could be a way to Bridge our current Maps so We can use them together on more Complex/longer Missions…It would be really Cool to use some current and upcoming Maps in one mission Kola/Caucasus Persian Gulf/Syria Syria/Sinai Afghanistan/ Any of The Above
is it in sync with what ED stated in the announcement ?
isnt there some better explanation from ED yet ? because I find their above statement bit blurry. like it can work independently when the regional map plays some historical scenario, but can it work together if both plays current day?
Remember that you can download specific areas and store them locally on your drive (manual cache), or if you fly often in one area just set up your rolling cache.
This makes sense if you look at DCS as a tactical air sandbox. Detailed individual maps can be made to allow for actual or fictional scenarios, either modern or historic. The world map can be used for large, modern scenarios where the tactical detail of structures is unimportant and all action is focused instead on units. Seamlessness between the two is not only not possible, but probably not desirable. I like this two-pronged approach. This will be a test for you ED. The “WORLD” includes Crimea, Red Square, and China’s new fake man-made islands. Detailed data is available now. Will ED include it?
Management from a multiplayer perspective will be tough too. There’s already been a lot of division over the different payware maps, particularly Normandy and Channel since they overlap (or will).
So I may be the only one to think this way. I took it as have the current map areas render in a spherical map as the underlying base versus flat. This was one of the issues with the Abris implementation in BS 1 and 2. It would mean redoing the current maps, and would allow for a more accurate simulation of navigation.
Did I miss something that’s making everyone think it’s a full globe type map?
I still don’t get using discord for official information, as seems to basically be IRC redone, but maybe I’m just at the point in life to start yelling at the kids on my lawn.
Lol, thanks for making me chuckle. I feel the same!
Discord servers are often used in the role forums used to have, but in my opinion it’s very ill suited for the task. Especially with lots of users in a particular server.
I miss the old forum communities like we have here.
That said, ED still runs their forums regardless. But using discord as a premier comoany news outlet is not a great thing. But that might just be us old geezers.
@jenrick@Yassy I’m not sure what you mean by old but I was born after Fleet Defender and Star Wars: Tie Fighter and I fully agree. Discord is great for casual multiplayer but I hate to see it take the role of forums. Forums are findable, Discord history is a mess.
Was it ever stated by ED that Mariana’s WWII would be Free? I don’t believe I ever remember hearing/seeing that anywhere??
I get a feeling it will be part of a much Bigger Pacific Theater release…maybe something bundled with The Hellcat or Corsair??…or even another Pacific Island??
