I don’t have VR issues with the 2.8 Open Beta branch, although I can’t remember how it was in 2.7… But every once in a while there is an update that breaks something or causes worse performance. It’s usually fixed in the next update though. And you can always go back to an earlier version, if you want.
Mine was destroyed. 65FPS to 32FPS, on the ground in the Viper Nevada Takeoff instant action.
I’m…not thrilled.
I was able to get back to mid-40’s by knocking two points off of my PD, which obviously affects visual quality.
This update changes the VR runtime to OpenXR for all headsets. The visuals are markedly better: colors more rich, less shimmer, and clouds smoother.
But…with my original settings (which typically delivered locked 72FPS in my own simple missions) the game is unplayable.
As Whiskey stated…Yesterday’s OB has a Huge impact on VR…and for many not a positive effect. Some Who had Open XR running perfectly cannot run DCS in VR at all.
I can not get DCS to run in Open XR and had to switch back to SteamVR which is more of a performance hit in VR.
The Villagers are not Happy!!!
Thanks, guys - I’ll stick with 2.7 for now. Still got plenty of missions and campaigns for it that I haven’t done.
Mine decreased quite a bit with yesterday’s update. Afraid I’m going to have to revert until the next one.
Ah… I haven’t tested yesterdays update.
I had to tweak it some, some of the openxr tool settings I ran made the thing crash. It runs fine on my box, and looks nice too.
Remember, flat terrain shadows are as expensive, if not more than the default ones.
Ran it a couple of time yesterday (I run it a lot in 2.7 for reason’s relating to other issues 2.8 introduced):
- My OpenXR Toolkit wasn’t where I left it: motion repro was turned off. Chin scratcher 1.
- Noticed my wingman was ‘jittery’: Sent my Bot wingman to “open formation”. So instead of giving it a little side pressure on the stick he hits the burners until he’s directly abeam (or maybe a tad ahead), then yanks it up over me, only to end up lagging way behind and trying to catch up again - to the point: when he was doing all these gyrations his jet was ‘stuttering’ more than I’ve seen it. And the FPS was ~60 (Reverb G2).
- It _appeared clearer , or something? Hard to describe other than, after the D/L, my first gut reaction in the cockpit was, “huh, it’s looks better, more clear?”.
DCS is such a beautiful mess.
Ain’t that the truth. Amen.
If I understand the link above by @Phantom88: I can/should UNinstall opencomposite now, right?
This from the top:
“as we have already mentioned we are working on the shadows issues and VR performance,” - BIGNEWY in ED forums, OpenXR topic
Running a Quest Pro (which is amazing) via a 3090ti, so YMMV. Whatever they did with this patch got the OpenXR toolkit functional again with the Oculus runtime. That’s cool to have but not a deal killer if it doesn’t, since I don’t do nearly as much tweaking as I did with WMR. FPS seen about the same, with a slightly improved image. Maybe. It’s been pretty much set and forget since I went back to Oculus/Meta. Have not had a crash either. Not a single one. Big fan of the Meta VR ecosystem. Seems much less of a rope.
I really have no clue…I can’t right now run in VR without The SteamVR App running…Is this normal now for DCS VR?..I don’t know why such a major change that effects a good portion of the community wasn’t noted or even mentioned in The Patch Notes…very Frustrating
In the post I mentioned Bignewy says this item was missed in the notes. My impression was he stood up and admitted it was his omission. Good on him.
Anywho, I don’t have steamVr app running and so far so good. I’m going in again…
Hey Phantom88, do you have Skate’s Updater tool? Try launching it with the VR On button and see if it forces SteamVR to launch. It shouldn’t.
If they were using opencomposite switching,
They need to force SteamVR Mode
--force_enable_VR --force_steam_VR
Then tell composite to put it back to Steam, then remove any files or edits pertaining to the OpenComposite->OpenXR Switching
Also Motion reprojection needs to be off.
You can use it, select SteamVR in the VR Interface option, and it will force SteamVR,
Which as stated above, will allow you to set opencomposite back to default, then remove DCS From it.
--force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR
Will also force OpenXR, which requires the OpenXR Companion App.
(Which also works on Oculus, So You can Use FSR w/ OpenXR)
Which should look like this:
If it’s listing DCS and OpenComposite, then there’s a problem with the install and the DLLs.
Bingo! That helped, a lot - cus I didn’t know I I didn’t know I had a problem. Thanks.
This is what you mean by a double listing @SkateZilla ? I tried fixing it with a slow repair and removal of extra files but no dice.
I can’t get rid of the extra bits either. I mean, it’s working (VR loads, I can fly DCS, etc). Hmm.
They are likely saved in the registry
