Well done. And you also probably (inadvertantly) solved an issue for me as well…
Last fight night I was having all sorts of trouble with (what I thought was) my G2 and Discord.

You guys are brave. Before starting DCS, I reboot my PC to ensure nothing extraneous is sucking memory or cpu cycles.
I hadnt thought about that, but I do it anyway. computer is turned off after use
I really, really, reeeeeally, want a DCS: Battle of Britain to go with this map!
Please, @wagmatt!
Me too
Ok just getting back to you all about what fixed my low frame rates in 2.8.2.
First, as Troll pointed out, I had to force OpenXR with the command line option. I then put Windows Mixed Reality back as the default OpenXR renderer and bade farewell to the layer upon layer of nonsense that is WMR in SteamVR.
There were two options that made a huge difference to my frame rates (and ability to have enough overhead to record flights):
Terrain textures had to be set to “Low”
TacView recording: I had to uncheck the “Enable” in the “Flight Data Recording” section.
These were the two that did the trick. I also turned off terrain shadows, since “flat” is allegedly bugged now, but I didn’t see a huge difference in this in testing.
Edit: me three on DCS: BoB!
Any guestimates on the Heatblur F4 being released. My wonderful wife is buying it for me for Valentines day. I offered to get her the Combined Arms module but she went for jewelry instead
Odds are not on or before valentine’s
Valentines day 2024?
Quite likely
Chicks…!
So…OpenVR = good. Got it; I’ll try that.
In the mean time MicroSoft keeps pinging me to upgrade to Win11. I’m considering it, if for no other reason to get MS off my back.
I seem to recall from other OS upgrades, apps like OpenVR (which I assume is like OpenX from Win98…yes, I am that old…I ran Toronado under Win 3.0…or was it DOS 5.0…) might work a bit differently…or not…but would probably need some tweaking of the command line in DCS…or not.
Thoughts?
I’ve heard mixed reviews about games in Win11. A friend who had upgraded said that DCS did run, but he had a problem with his controllers not working properly under Win11 so he went back to Win10.
That was a while ago now, well before the recent OpenXR support. I’m still using Win10 and am going to resist upgrading until there’s a good reason to (for me that’s either something I want to use not working on Win10 or Microsoft ending security updates for it).
Edit: then again, I need a processor upgrade (and resulting mainboard upgrade) to install Win11, so it’s not exactly a free upgrade for me. Not sure how much that colours my thinking honestly…
Feedback from a Meta ecosystem user, who doesn’t like to fiddle with settings and who values stability above all. Using the Oculus OpenXR runtime allows my to refine the visuals. I’ve been trying different Appearance settings (brightness, saturation, contrast, etc) to get the best image possible. Using OpenXR ToolKit allows me to do this without loss of stability. In other words, not a single crash or other issue like loss of hand controllers. Right now, I don’t need NIS, but it’s nice to know its there if I have FPS issues.
Next time she wants to cuddle or a hug, tell her she refused combined arms,
rahahahaha
Don’t we have a separate string for “Dad Jokes”?
Why? The balloon AI would always win…
