Thanks @RedBravo65 I just watched the Grim Reaper’s first video on start-up etc and noticed it has a nice cockpit and very usable nav systems, so that was a great start. Thanks for the video links.
@Freak - I only use stable these days, so I am limited with my online options, though there are servers on stable.
Reasoning is that after a clean install a couple of months ago my performance has been great - even before I bought the 4080 - and after years of frustration at low settings I’m loathe to do anything to upset the apple cart. I even removed all my mods, and don’t feel any worse off for it. Just have the two necessaries for most missions (479th range targets and VPC Airfield Eqpt). Also, I know it’s not going to suddenly go belly-up after an update, as has happened a couple of times with the beta - and didn’t everyone kick up a fuss!
Actually, I do think that doing some online action would provide enough motivation in itself. I used to run a second PC as a server before they did the dedicated one and always had a few guys to fly with. Not done it since.
I’ve bought it, and finally used my miles to get a £7 reduction - but what frustrates me is that on the Mirage F1 purchase I could use Paypal, but for the MB-339 I can’t.
Doesn’t make sense. The frustrating thing is that if I have to pay by card it shoves the price back up, because not only do I have no idea what exchange rate will be applied (Paypal always shows in GBP before purchase) but there will also be an additional charge for paying in a foreign currency.
I fully understand why you are on the release branch. I have been there too after some frustrating bugs, and I get at least as annoyed at the masochistic tendencies of the community as a whole that makes the beta the de facto default to then complain when it is not stable. In a perfect world, I would be on DCS’ stable branch too.
Normally I would downgrade to fly with you a few times but this multithreading version is the best thing since DCS 1.5 and I cannot go back.
Once multithreading is in stable, I will gladly switch back and forth.
Oh and IIRC, @RedBravo65 is also on stable. You might want to fly with him, I think he also enjoys the Mirage F1
I always use my Revolut card for online purchases now. Worth looking into. I use it for everything and everything that looks like its either abroad or just dodgy.
Plus, i got 3 of my friends to sign up and they gave us all £75 each time lol
Oh okay - never heard of that card, but I’ll give it a Google. I learned about and got myself the Blue Light and Defence Forces cards last year and have used them all of once since! Whenever I ask I always get some reason why I can’t use it (sale price/reduced already/we only take the app, not the card etc etc). In theory they are great to have, but not as useful if you’re not Rockerfeller! (which has naff all to do with this, as they are different type of card, but hey-ho!)
Must admit I’ve been sorely tempted by open beta due to the majority seeming to use it, but I think I’d have to be flying with others regularly to really feel I had to do it. When 2.5 was released my DCS flying time plummeted (remember how bad it was to start with, in VR?). Just never picked up again after that, to what it used to be for me.
Has anyone been flying the VSN mods? I downloaded the F-4B/C and their F-104 a few days ago. Both cockpits look great - but I have problems with the coffin. It doesn’t react to many of the inputs assigned. It works with some (views, canopy etc) but not others (brakes, flaps+).
I only flew the Phantom airborne already, and it seemed okay, but not fully tested the assignments on that.
I couldn’t call up the ATC in the Starfighter, but I did hear them talking to me. This one uses FC code - I’m not sure about the Phantom, probably the same. I’ll be doing more testing but not for a few days - I have to go offline from tomorrow while we have builders in the house
You’re in a different country, so probably a different process, but after they removed and then returned to using PP there have been at least two purchases (including this last one, but not the one before that) where it wasn’t available at checkout.
I always use PP for online purchases when available - though I have learnt that it’s not always a good idea as certain e-tailers won’t let you use a different email for the purchase to the one you use on Paypal (CEX/Webuy.com for example) and then sell your info to spammers like property traders etc.
Ok… I’m coming back from a lengthy DCS hiatus (along with building a new PC and sim rig ). For VR, I understand OpenXR is now natively supported- no more SteamVR? I just add
–force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR to the target line in my shortcut??. Seems to work ok.
Can we still use the OpenXR toolkit and/or OpenXR tools for WMR? Someone please hit me with the cliffnotes/TLDR.
In English:
Yes, OpenXR is now natively supported in DCS and you can add “–force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR” to the target line in your shortcut to activate it. As for the OpenXR toolkit and tools for WMR, they should still work as they did before.
