Yeah, VR was a game-changer for me - it’s what I dreamed about in the 90’s. Not going back. But that has a cost.
It has helped, a little, by duct-taping over the Graphics Sliders, so I can’t keep creating self-inflicted wounds, if you will. For me anyway, there’s a point were it’s more than good enough. Ignorance is bliss?
If you’re willing to not go beyond low to mid settings and resolutions and limit the amount of stuff on screen, yes older stuff will still work.
It’s like the difference between people who want a new car as soon as (or maybe even before) they pay off their current one and those who are willing to drive one for 20 years as long as it still goes from A to B and don’t care how it looks, how it performs, whether they can use a phone handsfree, sound system, etc.
Does a 6700K still work? Sure. Does it work as well as a CPU from the last couple of years? Of course not. Only by NOT having one there to compare it against can you say it runs the same. DCS World is over 10 years old. Most other sims are that age or older except MSFS 2020/4. So of course a CPU released after those came out can handle them.
It will be interesting to see how Combat Pilot and Korea fare on those systems when they come out in the next year or two.
Hey, that’s my truck. She’s 20 years old this year. There’s a story behind every scratch and dent. A few hundred bucks every year or two. Runs great (I just jinxed it?)
Last night I was flying carrier traps in the MSFS2020 Milviz Corsair and Got Friends Hellcat. So as far as DCS is concerned, I sure hope we get the Hellcat first. Corsair is incredibly hard to land on a carrier.
Ensign Eliminator was one of its early nicknames. It soon was foisted off on the marine corps by the navy, because they used land based runways more. Yeah, the F-4U should be a right female canine to land on the deck.
In literally every game I’ve ever played that had the F4U (or one of the also-mades), the torque has been a literal killer. Even Aces of the Pacific modeled it and that barely modeled anything. It was stronger in 1942: PAW, the one modded into CFS3 had it (I never had CFS2, can’t comment), and it was there in Il2 Pacific Fighters.
Worst thing that can happen is getting behind the power curve while landing so you throttle up too fast while low and slow…you’re going for a swim.
Another thing is modern jets make use prefer a lineup with some time stabilized in the groove, for aircraft with impossibly long noses like the Corsair and Seafire the RN (at least) preferred a curving approach so the pilot could maintain visual on the carrier…
In the old games that included carrier ops in the Corsair, I remember keeping a slight sideslip. Even closing the Cowl flaps bought a bit of visibility. The Pitts is like this too. I see very little when I land. But then, I have the luxury of a nice runway.
I broke my Corsair. Joking, The tailwheel collapses every time I spawn. Its a known issue. I will try to redownload.
Brits, did not even look the gift horse in the mouth. The US gave them Corsairs to replace thier nice easy Grummans, and they were going to use them. After several casualties and many accidents it was the RN who developed the sideslip and angular approach. I can just imagine the smug look on the RN when they said, “Thanks for the plane chaps, here is how to use it!”
Thanks to @smokinhole and @Torc , Id forgotten all this…
FIXED my Corsair. The Spoilers Button. This causes the gear to come out without the tailwheel. It was Voughts idea of an airbrake. Once i deleted this button, my gear works as usual.
