There’s no DCS documentation on the new anchor feature so I gave it a quick try and it’s…weird.
Traditional race-track setup: start waypoint, second waypoint 30nm north. Tanker flies north to second waypoint, turns back south to start waypoint, repeat.
New anchor point setup with a 30x10nm track, “hot leg bearing” north. Tanker immediately starts turn at start waypoint and flies south for 30nm, where there is no waypoint, then turns back north to start waypoint, repeat. Second waypoint 30nm north completely ignored.
In F2 view I noticed the tanker’s wings were waffling all over the place when rolling out on the straight legs, so that looks a bit dangerous for rejoins.
Hmm. My first impression, when I read the release notes was: they over-complicated it? I had no issues with the way it was, really. It did seem that, before, the pattern was different once the “request for AR” was made. Perhaps they were trying to fix that?
I just wished they would do lead pursuit to join - they’ve always done lag pursuit before, which takes FORever. WIP I guess.
That’s Cap Arkona in the thumbnail. Been there the first time in 1994 as a 5 y/o and then visited again sometime in the mid 2000s. Rügen is beautiful, especially in May.
