DCS 2.9

More like staying up watching France have a close run with Austria :grinning:

But back on track … heatblur is a good outfit to run the server … all their planes are Cold War and it’s a good advert for them

The DCS summer sale is live.

Is anybody getting anything or are we holding off due to the Razbam fiasco?

I see the following discounts
Syria 30%
F-18 30%
Persian Gulf 50%
Nevada 50%

Are they pretty typical or due some sales go more, partially for Syria and F-18?

I’m holding off until the F4 and Kiowa eventually go on sale. I figure I have enough toys to keep me busy until then. :slightly_smiling_face:

50% is pretty much the max discount that they do these days, and the sales are fairly regular, every couple of months or any holiday is a good time for a sale :grinning:

Syria and the gulf are both very good maps, Syria is definitely the better of the two and would fit very well with the f18

As for the razbam … all of the products you listed are none of theirs, and so far it’s only affecting the razbam products …. So I would definitely hold off buying the f15, mig19, mirage, but the south Atlantic map seems to be ok and getting updates

some new info about the CH-47

We are preparing to launch the DCS: CH-47F into Early Access, along with the new DCS: Afghanistan map. Much of the remaining work focuses on the cargo carrying functions, damage model, flight control systems, and avionics. We are also working on the countermeasure systems and door gunners. Furthermore, we are pleased to introduce new pilot models that will enhance the visual authenticity of the cockpit experience.

Based on the results from recent internal and external testing, we have decided to move the launch date to the 3rd of July, 2024. This is your last opportunity to take advantage of the DCS: CH-47F -30% pre order discount that stays valid until launch! Consequently, we have decided to move the whole of our upcoming major update to the same date. So hurry and get your hands on DCS: Afghanistan also with the -30% pre order discount before time runs out.

Has anyone tried cold starting and flying the A-10A from FC3 lately? For me, it’s more busted than a 90s Chevy.

Cold start no, hot or air start seemed fine.

Thanks, a restart fixed it. It was odd.

I agree that would be ideal but when developing flight models for a niche flight sim, these things can take a while I guess. Also I don’t use Microsoft for my antivirus but ESET.

Your point about viruses abusing the DCS folder since it is commonly whitelisted is a good one. I guess I should mitigate that risk by running a DCS Updater ā€œCleanā€ periodically, to make sure the folder only has DCS’ own files.

Their reasoning, IIRC, was that the Strike Eagle is in Early Access and might not be finished. Thus, if you are unhappy about the current feature set and the fact it is not being actively developed anymore, you can get a refund. Removing it from the store might put them at fault so their lawyers probably advised them not to do that.

Let’s not delve too deep on legal issues between ED and Razbam, as explained higher up in this thread. Reasons enough to take it chill, enjoy what we have, be happy we have escrow or ā€œcheck outā€ and get a refund for the Strike Eagle.

I wonder if runnung ā€œRepairā€ would be even better idea, though I don’t know if it checks for the change of proper file hash (in case of malicious code injection).

Yeah, I think repair gives an option to only remove unneeded files or check every file.

My general rule for the repair function is ā€œshort repairā€ only when I have a known corrupted file and I need to download a fresh one, ā€œslow repairā€ for everything else.

This is circular. If they have already have the ability to look on your system for that, it’s infected. There’s no need to look for an unprotected folder.
You don’t look for an unlocked exterior door after you’ve broken into the building.

What is that smell?

Hoping it’s just a BBQ gone wrong.

AFAIK there is a kind of reputation system for companies in Windows Defender that plays into the AV heuristic.

It could be that RBs codesigning certificate has expired, worsening their reputation. Or something else caused a dip in their reputation. Could also just be coincidence, false positives happen all the time.

ED themselves have been false flagged quite a few times.

It feels like there was a change with the last Windows update on both 10 and 11. A fair bit of old stuff (admittedly that needs to touch hardware) stopped working for me, and now stuff is getting flagged left, right and centre when previously we were pretty clean at least in my household.

It was such a sudden thing I actually thought it had caused the F-15 radar thing, though that doesn’t seem to be the case…

This sounds interesting, what could be coming ā€œin the futureā€ (add Andre’s accent herešŸ˜€)

Is that a B-2? An F-117?

Shapes are… like that?
