DCS 2.9

:raised_back_of_hand: Me

Afghanistan, Iraq, and SEA are long overdue IMHO. PG, Syria, and I guess Egypt, made sense for the same reasons, given the platforms we have. Same for WWII maybe but that’s not my Jam

I will buy at full price whatever section the Rotorheads server is using. Right now they are still in Syria and so far have avoided the Negev, as have I.

I just pulled the trigger. Just from the terrain it should be an interesting area to fly, and there is of course the historical aspect.

Need to order a new 4TB SSD to migrate my DCS installation to. And that’ll have to wait until after this court stuff is done.

I jumped on it as intended but waited until last night, hoping to play it today. I got burned!!! :grinning: Just kidding
the delay is no big deal.

Affirmative.

Epic high altitude flying in the Chinook (Horse Soldiers and the battle of Takur Ghar/Roberts Ridge), CAS in the AV-8B (A Nightmare’s Prayer) , long range Tomcat strikes (Operation Enduring Freedom), Hornet, Strike Eagle, Kiowa, Apache, Warthog, Hip, an Viper ops. Not to mention the ten year Afghan-Soviet war of the 80s. Lots of possible historical scenarios with DCS equipment there.

I’m tempted by the Afghanistan map, but half of the modules I would use on it (Mudhen, Harrier) are in limbo, and the other half (Hind, Apache) I don’t often fly because their employment eats up a huge chunk of time compared to the pointy noses.

I can’t decide whether to fly Kola winter in the middle of summer, or keep using my real weather injector and wait until winter to enjoy it.

I’ve recently looked, a little, into this and The A-10 was of course a major player and the Viper was present (found later dates on these); the Tomcat was here early (D models but the B would work - minus the glaring omission of an ocean to put carriers in!), same with Hornets [1]

[1] @chipwich mentions the Tomcat (above I think) which led to some research that sums up my high-level structuring of DEPLOYED! I’m somewhat pleased I got this mostly right. Can’t wait to get back home and put some things to bed here; getting this confirmation lets me complete the basic “flow”, only changing the names of some things
Have determined to my satisfaction now how to transition the campaign as things evolve. A sticky part stemmed from supporting helicopters to multi role jets throughout a given campaign.

Struck me tonight I could write a book from all the material/notes. I think I see how it all would be put together from 1952 to 2018 (have been stuck on this) they all had same “ingredients”; different terms; some conflicts model every phase; some a subset; some everything in one area; some all of it but in different regions of the same conflict .

Forgot about the A-10 and Viper–though were those deployed at bases within Afghanistan? My main reasoning for not doing Tomcat/Hornet is lack of water for carrier ops.

Meant to order Afghanistan earlier, got it last week when I remembered. I actually got it to have a high elevation map to try out rotary flight in.

Yes. A-10 Did time at both Kandahar and Bagram. and The F-16 did most its time at Bagram.

“The build is socked in with bugs and gremlins. No patch tonight.”

(Enlisted piping on officer’s cap bugs me more than the patch delay hah)

Dear All,

We regret to inform you that additional time is required to thoroughly test the recent fixes, necessitating another delay. We will communicate the new patch date as soon as the tasks are completed.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

I figure since the Tomcat and Hornet flew missions there, some artistic license is allowed. But yeah, a forward deployed Tomcat attached to a VM Hornet squadron takes some convincing.

I forgot to mention the basing as @weaponz248 mentioned

Heard some STORIES from a friend of mine who was a -135 driver during that time period. Especially about the Hog folks.

I have no doubt that the Afghanistan map will be a good (maybe great) DCS map.

But
I can pretty much guarantee that I won’t be getting it.

Got some bad memories hidden on that map eh.

Not sure what show/movie that is from, but field commission?
